In Crypto, we really have to learn how to agree to disagree more often. Strong opinions and exchange of ideas are important, but there’s no doubt about how petty our public dialogue and debate has become. It makes Crypto look bad. Case in point, the ETH Supply “controversy”.

The ETH Supply question is perfectly legitimate for those trying to learn and understand about what Ethereum is all about. However, it makes little sense why someone would try to force Bitcoin-like criteria onto Ethereum, when Vitalik clearly communicated that Ethereum was never supposed to be a Bitcoin 2.0. It’s a decentralized application platform, not a pure play decentralized store of value/payments system. It makes even less sense to try and make the leap from a legitimate technical critique about ETH, to then insinuate that somehow ETH is a total scam and a fraud. That’s a misguided point of view and clearly has motivated some bad-faith commentary by otherwise quality thought leaders on the Bitcoin side. Fortunately, Andreas put out a great rebuttal and has helped make the dialogue more constructive.Anyone who followed the early development of Ether in the crypto media, should have a decent awareness that Vitalik wanted to make a blockchain network with new and enhanced characteristics. I think he has a deep understanding of Bitcoin, and he fully understood there was nothing more secure and scarce as a digital asset than Bitcoin. Vitalik didn’t create Ether to compete with Bitcoin. Like most people, Vitalik isn’t perfect, but ultimately I think he can be honestly judged as a good faith actor and leader in the ETH community.Ether and Bitcoin are not pure competitors. If anything, their coexistence is a fascinating display of complementary competition. Just look at WBTC. It’s actually amazing what both communities are building.None of this means that Ether is better than Bitcoin, or vice versa. It just means that BTC and ETH are two completely different protocols governed by a completely different set of rules, that both communities achieve through some form of consensus. The horse as been beaten dead, and we keep beating it. Stop throwing shade at each other. Everyone is still figuring it out, learning, building, and making it up as they go.Moving forward any allocation to Ether or BTC seems like a wise long term investment. Both are here to stay. Show some respect to anyone part of either community and wish them well. We’re all walking on different paths, so the best thing to do is respect, support, and challenge each other to learn and improve everyday.
