The next bubble will be epic and horrible

Nothing ever happens quite how we expect, but I think that the next bubble is virtually assured at this point. The timing is the only wildcard, along with what the peak will be.We saw the bottom come in at $5900, and the rush of true support flooding in to punctuate the end of the latest bear run. Now we are in the slow froth and churn that marks the beginning of the next exponential expansion.Wall Street is getting fired up, as are funds and banks. The "do not sell before" embargo sticker has been lifted off of bitcoin and our street date has arrived. The most prominent minds in the world are teeming with possibilities and the bitcoin venture space looks a LOT like the Internet in the early nineties.Basically, we are at a situation where bitcoin is becoming a precious, desirable, and scarce resource... But people just haven't realized it yet.────────And when they do, it won't be a slow and steady March upward. It will be a monumental movement that will leave our heads spinning. One day we will go from $7000 to $9000, and we'll all be smiling and patting ourselves on the backs. 😄Then in a week we'll be at $1200, and positive news stories will start to flow. The public will take notice. Then $13000 $14000 $15000 $16000 $17000.Then $21000. New all time high. Now comes the euphoria and panic. 😮$25000, $30000.... Wonder, new paradigms... How high can it go? OK... It's crashing, finally... Down to... Whoops. Nope.New money flows in, and people begin to believe in bitcoin in earnest and there is a rush to own an asset that is rising every single day.... $35000, $40000. 😰Those of us who own at these levels will be freaking the fuck out. Should we sell? Is it going all the way up? I mean, the news is abuzz about bitcoin. Everyone's talking about it. All your relatives that you've been 'preaching' to for a year now are freaking out and asking how they can buy some 'bits' as fast as possible, while bits are still less than a cent apiece. Many panic and sell on the way up... And truthfully I don't know how high the next bubble can take bitcoin... At $50k the "market cap" will be about $862 billion... That's a lot, but about the valuation of the single largest company. At this point people will be screaming about how this is a financial revolution. We may get all the way to $100k before the major correction, but you bet your ass if we get that high people will be imagining that we are going all the way up, to a million dollars per "coin" asap.Perhaps a financial crisis will hasten the rise. Perhaps not.────────I know this, bitcoin hasn't moved in a stable predictable rise yet, and there's no reason to think it will start now. It has moved in exponential bursts, each preceded by a pessimistic retraction period. This will be the sixth such time we have done so, and we are growing increasingly efficient at it.I want you to go ahead and start thinking about what you will do, and how you will act when the 'unthinkable' occurs. Because the unthinkable is always right around the corner. The rest of our lifetimes will be filled with 'unthinkable' moments. The next bitcoin bubble (due before the end of 2019) will be one more such incident. 💥Mainly I want you to think about the world events that will have to happen to make this true... And then what would have to happen to cause a major correction in the price from $100k per bitcoin back down to $20000 per.Wisdom is recognizing that history repeats itself, and there's nothing new under the sun.Wealth is the end result of taking a calculated risk based off your acquired wisdom.

Asia +2 | USA +1 | Europe? What’s the next catalyst to drive mass adoption?

- CBOE Launched BTC Futures Market EOY 2017 (USA)- CBOE to launch ETH Futures Market EOY 2018 (USA)- Bitcoin ETF (hopefully) to come EOY (USA)- Largest Crypto Exchange = Binance (Asia)- 2nd & 3rd Largest Crypto Exchange (Asia)- 4th Largest Crypto Exchange (USA)- Europe? Here in Europe we're FAR behind when it comes to crypto adoption compared to other countries. Switzerland, Germany and France is spurring with crypto activity and very well could blow this market up with more institutions and Individuals. But there also NEEDs to be more regulation in this space before we see other Europeans step up and get into this space.Europe is taking on a heavier regulatory approach alongside Kraken and Bitstamp along with several newer exchanges. Now more than ever it’s about bringing more users, growth, and innovation into the crypto space with heavier regulation.Likewise, Coinbase, Binance, and almost all major exchanges are shifting towards more reg friendly protocols because they’re all scared of “pound-me-in-the-ass prisons” and fines (Chinese exchanges exempt of course). The biggest narrative right now revolves around ETFs and how that will catapult Bitcoin into the stratosphere; but what does an ETF ultimately come down to?Regulation.Your thoughts?

WTF is TaTaTu and does any sane person believe they raised 550 million in a private token sale? I though ICOs were not too popular in 2018

I literally skimmed through coinmarketcap couple of days ago and this funny-sounding name popped up - TaTaTu. I thought it was a glitch on CMC.Then upon further research, I found out they allegedly raised 500+ million for some kind of a social entertainment platform. If this is true, that means there is still money in ICOs to milk out.Anyone here actively investing in ICOs this year? Anything interesting in Q4?

Bank just confiscated my last $18k. I'm a broken man; I lost everything. But I am thankful for the ephemeral glimmer of hope that cryptocurrency brought to my life.

tl;dr of tl;dr- OP went from ~$3k in 2014 to $750k 2017 to literally 0 as of 30th August 2018.- The banks have - quite literally - changed my balance from $16,000 to 0. For what reason I cannot quite fathom.tl;dr- OP struggled with major depression entire life.- Slaved away part-time as young adult. Put a $3k loan + life savings in BTC in 2014.- Forgot about BTC till 2017. Was about to end it - and then checked prices.- Got up to $750k by October but didn't cash out (much).- Relapsed with bad gambling and substance use over 2018- Made pathetic last attempt to use remaining $18k to get clean, start fresh.- Finds out bank somehow has the power to erase/close accounts with no explanation. Emotions go from furious to completely resigned and apathetic. If it's the last thing I do hope this post helps to expose the appalling "system" we still live in; one that is often devoid of any semblance of humanity.==== PICS AT BOTTOM OF POST ====Why am I writing this? As much as I'd like to claim it's for noble or virtuous intent, really it's just cos I'm bawling my eyes out right now and have no one left to tell my joke of a life to. I feel someone out there who's struggling, however, will find value in it and that's all that matters. I've provided some screenshots if anyone is skeptical.I've had some great times on Reddit, r/crypto and related subs. Other times I've hated it. But I can honestly say that Reddit has been one of the few places I've found solace in. I sincerely hope every one of you eventually makes it - no matter what your definition of success and fulfillment is. <3I never fit in. I was never 'normal', as much as I wished I was. I never realised I was truly different, though, until I received a late diagnosis for ADHD, depression and anxiety in my adult life. But the damage had been done. I have a wonderful family, but there is only so long one can push oneself through daily life without an external support network before one reaches breaking point.I came across Bitcoin in 2014 and was immediately in love with it. All else aside, I believed with 100% conviction that it would be the global reserve currency. I took out a loan and put a total of maybe $6k in (~$3k loan, ~$3k savings). Long story short: I forgot about it till 2017 mostly because I was struggling with other issues and had told myself to pretend my BTC didn't exist for another 8 years. Then one night early last year, I found out I'd have to repeat another year of uni (for the 4th time) thanks to my brain's inability to concentrate and I just lost it. I couldn't bear to tell my family who'd done everything for me that, despite my best efforts, I'd embarrassed myself - and them - yet again. And personally, I couldn't spend another second in that institutional prison (that's how it feels to me). That same night I was halfway through a pack of k-pins and in my altered state I started recounting if I'd ever "achieved" anything in my life - personal, academic. Financial. Immediately, the memory of my old BTC wallet which I'd nearly forgotten about came flashing back. Fuck it. Might as well give it a look. I nearly had a heart attack. It had done about 5x! This was more money than I'd ever seen having worked minimal wage hospitality jobs. IncredibleFrom that day onwards, something changed. I felt alive for the first time in... well, forever. I lied to my parents and told them I was attending class; I'd really be at the local library or Starbucks on my laptop, on Bittrex and later Binance. Every day I'd get myself into a routine, go to the gym, do something productive, then research and learn as much as possible about crypto. From BTC I was lucky enough to catch the ETH wave, then a few alt pumps (notably OMG and WTC). It was unbelievable. I went from about $25k to $750k at my ATH.. all over a few months!!!!!!! Fucking insane; the stuff dreams are made of.https://i.redd.it/ln6cqydgx8j11.pngIt was too good to last.I actually started to become more social and felt more confident, like I was actually a real person in society. Looking back though, I admit it was probably similar to being high for 10 months straight. I'm also not proud to admit that it got to my head. I thought this was only the start of a life filled with millions that I was destined for, after years of struggling and working my ass off at shitty jobs. Little did I suspect that this was as good as it was ever going to get.The bear market that ensued wasn't a sudden realisation for me. Rather, it appeared in my greed-infected brain as never-ending cycles of "buy the dip, be a multi-millionaire in 6 months". Slowly but surely, reality crept in. And then I panicked. Really fucking badly.Remember how I mentioned I had mental issues growing up? I thought crypto had "fixed" me, but I was only setting myself up for the darkest period of my life. Crypto was all I had for over half a year. I'd literally lost interest in everything else. So when the very real prospect of losing EVERYTHING dawned on me I felt absolutely sick. What did I do? .... I tried to win back profits playing crypto casinos. Initially, I got lucky, but you don't need to be a genius to conclude that this luck didn't last long. I absolutely deserve every single loss. My mental state is a real issue and no one will ever fucking convince me otherwise - but it is NEVER an excuse for reckless behaviour. Please, please keep that in mind if you have problems of your own.Recall that my parents still think I'm at uni. They are still so proud of their son who's "almost" a self-made millionaire from crypto. I need help, but they can't know anything. So I decided to take out the last $16-$18k from my account and pay in cash for the help and support I need. Figured it was easier to explain a cash loan to a friend, rather than statements about mental health support. This is the point where the story really takes a turn for the worst. When you think you've hit rock bottom, think again - because, my friend, you've probably got another 300 ft to fall. I was told when I entered the bank today that I would get my money with NO issues. I just needed to sign a form and provide ID. I gave them my ID. It wasn't the correct type. Fair enough, I'll go get my driver's license. Oh shit, it's expired *will try to refrain from making an ADHD-related comment here*. I go home and grab every document I can find - passport, birth certificate, etc.At this point, the staff at the bank are giving me strange looks and treating me as if I'm a criminal. I'm asked where I got the money and I tell them it's from a crypto exchange called BTCmarkets. Next, I'm told that some "phone calls" need to be made to verify the withdrawal (and I wasn't told this before..?) I'm pressured to tell them what I'm using the money for. "None of your business," I reply... Oh wow, you really are a fucking idiot. I've immediately realised what a stupid response this is. The lady "assisting me" gives me a death stare. I panic - "um, I need it to uh, pay back some contract workers. Urgently." Fucking lol. Incredible how I can be made to feel paralaysed with anxiety going about my daily business.I'm held at the bank for about 2 hours and treated like a criminal for about 110 minutes of that time, and why? For trying to withdraw MY. OWN. HARD-EARNED. MONEY. I get frustrated. I raise my voice marginally and tell them I need the money because I have patiently waited for 1.5 hours and and have an appointment to be at (which is the TRUTH). I ended up missing my appointment completely and they have $50 cancellation fees to top it off!! Go me!Anyway, I'm told that if I continue to use an "aggressive tone" security will be called. I'm in disbelief. Like actually in shock. Being an ethnic minority in a Western country I'm more than accustomed to casual discrimination, but I've never had much emotion to it until today. I was trying so hard to suppress my anger that I was SHAKING. I am being treated like a criminal in my OWN country for trying to withdraw THE MONEY THAT I LEGALLY OWN AND HAVE PROVIDED CONCRETE EVIDENCE FOR.This merry-go-round farce went on for so long that the bank actually hit closing time. I left being told to try again tomorrow and that they may contact me if they hear back verifying that the funds aren't illegally obtained (....what the hell??!!).Now I leave the best part for the end. An hour later I check my bank account, and they erased my balance and locked my account. I literally cannot afford to buy dinner or fill up my tank. I've lost everything. Not only did they kick me while I was down, spit on me and twist the knife; they didn't even have the respect to give me a heads up that "oh yeah, we altered the ledger of ownership so currently your net worth is 0. I almost had to walk home as I had no cash and my tank was at its last bar.Ironically, this is actually a beautiful ending; these appalling practices by the banks are what first enticed me to put all my savings in crypto. I have actually come full cycle, made a lot of money, and lost it all. Somehow, I can see the funny side in that. But I have no idea how I'm meant to handle this last blow.I can't ask my parents for help or the truth will unravel. They deserve so much better. And I'm not even mad at the bank anymore to be honest, not even frustrated. I'm Just bloody tired... So so tired. At some strange level, I have now found inner contentedness. Take care of yourself and the ones who love you. Crypto shouldn't be about the money so much as what it represents: liberty, respect, fairness, and the hope of a better future. That's why I took the plunge four years ago.\If I make it long enough to answer questions here, I will. I honestly don't think I'll be around longer than another 24 hours though.*\I was actually meant to get a final $2-3k come through tonight after liquidating my last few ETH. But the bank has COMPLETELY shut my account, so God knows whose hands that money's in now.*1. Asking for a written letter to tell me they won't give me my money and was sent this. N.b. I had already showed evidence of my withdrawal history before receiving this email. For invoice, they say they won't even consider giving me my money unless I provide an invoice on where exactly every cent of this money is going.2. No, this is not photoshop. This is the balance I was greeted with when I checked my phone after leaving the bank. They didn't even have the humanity to leave me something to buy dinner with. Prior to this, I had a 2nd account attached which had about $16,000 just an hour earlier.3. This is the hard evidence I provided them with to prove that I am the owner of my own money. It was rejected. My emails are being ignored and I have no idea what happens to my money (if I'm ever told).

ChangeMyMind: ICO success depends almost exclusively on marketing.

Looking at how stuff works, this claim is more and more plausibly to me.When you take a closer look, there is a pattern to recognize. Teams hire agencies or use high influence individuals with lots of connections in the industry to subtly shill them on social media. Then they go a level deeper and reach out to second tier Youtuber and crypto websites to shill them some more (almost always with no disclosure that is is paid content). All of the time they employ guerilla marketing on groups, forums and Reddit to buzz the coin around until we all think - oh, this is a great new project, I might invest an ETH or 2.Does anyone see any solution to this? How can we develop better BS filters? Can we use blockchain to somehow improve marketing industry as well?

When a hacker tries to get in your account and literally just has to write some bs to the Bittrex support to remove the 2fa and get into the account.(No money was stolen, could login and change the password before any harm was done.)

Chromapolis FUD: Stop the nonsense. (RE: The Ian Balina Scandal)

This piece was originally posted here by an anonymous writer, but I thought that it hadn't received enough views to truly defend the team. I'm sure many of you saw the Ian Balina ICO pool scandal here, but I thought it unfairly dragged down Chromaway's name with it.----------------------------------------------There has been massive amounts of FUD going around the ICO community–some accusations are well-founded, and I understand the confusion and anger.  I’m not here to defend the actions of the team, and I’m not here to say that they have reacted in the best way possible. Nor am I here to defend the actions of Ian Balina.  I am, however, here to defend the characters of the ChromaWay team and the accomplishments and contributions they have made to the blockchain industry.First of all, Alex Mizrahi has contributed more to the development of this fascinating industry than 99.99% of ICO participants. The ChromaWay team, led by Alex, were the first to create a protocol capable of issuing tokens, called “colored coins” at the time (circa 2011~2012). The concept was so new at the time that he even had to quote Meni Rosenfield on what “colored coins” were:By the original design bitcoins are fungible, acting as a neutral medium of exchange. However, by carefully tracking the origin of a given bitcoin, it is possible to “color” a set of coins to distinguish it from the rest. These coins can then have special properties supported by either an issuing agent or a Schelling point, and have value independent of the face value of the underlying bitcoins. Such colored bitcoins can be used for alternative currencies, commodity certificates, smart property, and other financial instruments such as stocks and bonds. His role in the propagation of the idea of what we now call “tokens” played a huge role in expanding the blockchain industry into what it is today. In fact, when Vitalik introduced the concept of Ethereum to the world onstage at Bitcoin Miami 2014, he praised colored coins and its potential to radically change the scope of blockchain applications.  Above: Slide from Vitalik’s presentation in BTC Miami 2014 on the applications of blockchain and distributed consensus, following Satoshi’s creation of digital currency and blockchain in 2009. Vitalik described colored coins by saying, “the idea behind [colored coins] is okay, you have a blockchain and you have a currency on it, but what if you could put other currencies on the blockchain as well.”Above: Jimmy Song, one of ChromaWay’s early hires, explains Colored Coins and ChromaWallet back in 2014 in Zug, Switzerland. We’ve come a long way from the small grassroots and enthusiast developer communities in 2011, to now multimillion dollar companies appearing out of thin air during 2017-18. If the ChromaWay team were only in it for the money, wouldn’t they have thrown together a whitepaper and raised $30 million when ICOs were all the rage last year? No, they waited for a breakthrough in lowering the barrier of entry for developers that want to create dapps: Postchain.  The implications of their breakthrough in Postchain is huge. The internet as we know it today, “internet 2.0” was created on the backbones of relational databases and improved protocols. Postchain, very simply put, allows relational blockchains. This means that any developer, blockchain experienced or not, will be able to create dapps using SQL queries that they are already familiar with. If more people cared about the core technology and its potential to truly make dapps mainstream and less about getting “hyped up” coins at a higher price, these recent waves of FUD would not have been given much attention--what Ian decides to do with his allocation is his decision. Again, I am not defending his actions nor the team’s response to the FUD. Quite frankly, the Chromaway team has never had to deal with situations like these, and I’m sure stress played a huge part.So what else has the team been doing since 2011? Short answer: a lot of research, ideas, and development, that we take for granted today.2011: Alex pretty much conceptualizes the idea of sidechains2011: Or Perelman announces new website for the Safebit wallet on Reddit2013: Discussing multisig wallets and how to build better interfaces for them2013: Warned everyone the dangers of leaving bitcoin on exchanges (right before the Mt. Gox crash)2014: Co-authored a research paper on how to secure cryptocurrency networks without Proof of Work, conceptualizing what we know today as Proof of StakeImplemented blockchain technologies  for numerous projects that are not profit-orientedWorking with and helping emerging countries to utilize blockchain to fight fraudWhat were you doing to help this revolution? They may have made mistakes--after all it is their first ICO. But it’s not fair to attack their character based on miscommunications and mistakes, that ultimately have no long-term effects on the project. If you have a problem with the way they have communicated with the community and investors that is completely reasonable. But do not start acting out character assassinations on people that have been building infrastructure in the space for years simply because you are unhappy with their inexperience in PR relations and communications. Come at them with your concerns not your vitriol. Creating anonymous posts where all you do is bash on them without providing constructive criticism will only create more problems. To add onto this, this article has been making the rounds and makes a lot of assumptions and straight out unfounded accusations. To be more specific near the end they call out an influencer known as “TheGobOne” as having been fined $400,000 by the SEC because of pooling. First of all TheGobOne is a Canadian citizen and is not governed by the SEC. And by his own word has not been in contact or been contacted by them in regards to pooling funds. To create entirely false talking points to support your narrative is as disingenuous as possible. Why the author felt the need to spread lies to try and support his point shows a clear alterior motive in trying to character assassinate influencers and team members associated with the project, rather than coming at them with purely fact based concerns.Above: TheGobOne refuting claims he was fined by the SEC in his Discord Announcements channel earlier today.Everyone in the blockchain space has been a bit on edge lately because of the serious market downturn. If you’re an investor you’ve been feeling the heat of the giant -70%+ losses on altcoins. Feeling frustrated at that is completely natural but in the end we have to make sure we don’t explode at projects and people that have little to do with our own down investments. There are teams and projects that are simply trying to build something they believe the space needs. Let’s try to make the crypto community stronger and come together to help these developers make the best projects they can. Without bombarding them with negativity for every mistake they make on the way there.Ending on a lighter note, you can see Alex’s true character in a funnily relevant thread from 2012 titled “fuck this shit, I want my own blockchain!” where he says:I understand that many community members won't like some of these features, but the goal here is to try new things, not to get some people rich. If you don't like it, then forget about it. If nobody likes it, I have other things to do.

What's going on with WEX exchange?

For anyone out of the loop - WEX "purchased" btc-e when the U.S. government took it down & confiscated crypto & dollars. They created IoU tokens (similar to what bitfinex did). Awhile back, they suspended withdrawals on almost all coins as well as shut down any USD withdrawals.I figured it was an exit scam. But here is what's weird. They've added Tether ...1 USDT buys $4 of their dollars. Then just recently they added XMR to the exchange as well.It also looks as if there's a significant amount of tether being sent to the exchange.https://ift.tt/2MWWrex have funds there? Any idea of what's happening?

Value of different cryptos

Have anyone ever found some good website that explains where the value of different cryptos comes from? It's easy to know for currencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, Nano, etc. But I am curious for non-currencies, what exactly gives them value. I will be very grateful if someone can point me to some website or something. Thanks.

Let's Talk about the BIG F'cking Elephant in the Room r/Cryptocurrency

Anyone else read the BoA patent published this week? No? Here's what it was about -They intend on creating a one-size-fit all device to enterprises and retailers. Complete with in-app exchange rates, swift fiat liquidity, and a secure vault system.Embodies the one thing I fear the most - Such topics are usually not given enough coverage, not are they discussed within crypto-circles. But behind the backs of all shady ICOs and ambitious individuals, the banks, the institutions, the audit firms, ALL are filing and getting their hands on as many patents as possibleMeaning - most ICO applications could end up being properties of the above mentioned companiesOr worst, cryptocurrencies could be widely used in the years to come.............facilitated by banks, hedge funds, and institutions. The patent also describes a "cryptocurrency credit" to customers, complete with a risk profile and other bank-like processes shoved in the cryptocurrencies. They want to build a robust infrastructure in place BEFORE regulations. So when the latter kicks in, we know who really wins. After all, it's not token makers who win - it's always the HOUSE (read:infrastructure)

There has been a lot of talk about a Bitcoin ETF. As a result, I've posted the following open letter addressed to the SEC.

Hello,My name is Malcolm Rose and I run an educational website about cryptocurrencies. I'd like to talk for a moment about something that's been on all of our minds lately: the prospect of a Bitcoin ETF.Hester Peirce is an SEC commissioner who has, unlike some of her colleagues, consistently expressed open minded and positive sentiments about cryptocurrency. When she posted this tweet indicating that the SEC was open to receiving responses from the public regarding various questions it had about cryptocurrency, I knew that I had to do my part.I have emailed the following open letter and also posted it on my website. I don't know if they're going to bother reading it, but I am remaining optimistic; why else would they have asked for feedback from the public? In any event, if I can clear up any misinformation I will consider this to have been a worthwhile endeavor. Please read my letter and let me know what you think. Signal boost this by tweeting about it or even writing your own letters. While I don't think a Bitcoin ETF is necessary for the success of Bitcoin, I do think it is of paramount importance to educate would-be regulators on these crucial topics.Malcolm Rose

~~ MONERO vs PIVX: The First Scheduled Privacy Coin Debate Thread on /r/CryptoCurrency ~~

Welcome everybody! As scheduled in the respective communities earlier today (as seen HERE and HERE) we will be hosting our first ever open debate thread between these two coins! Why Privacy?Mainstream Crypto adoption brings along an unprecedented fear that we've never had before - EVERYTHING is public. We will face a social and economic challenge no other generation has, where your wage, account balances and every purchase is permanently recorded for your nosy neighbor or crazy ex to snoop on. We're here to make sure this stops before it becomes a problem!.What is PIVX?PIVX is the most advanced Zerocoin protocol on the market, with an insanely talented team of researchers and developers bringing forward Instantly Verified Private Transactions to the cryptosphere. On top of launching the first PoS Zerocoin implementation, PIVX's innovations on the Zerocoin protocol include encrypted serial storage (ezPIV), deterministic zPIV for 1 time seed backups (dzPIV), fractional spend, direct 3rd party spend, automint, and zPoS, the first and only private staking system in the entirety of crypto. Topping it off, we have Researcher and Bulletproofs author Jonathan Bootle on the PIVX team, who's new paper shows a never-seen before zero-knowledge cryptographic proof almost every privacy coin has or will implement in the near future! What is Monero?Monero is the biblical beast of the privacy coins - Driving forward almost all the new cryptography in CryptoNote thanks to their crowd-funded Research Lab, and pushing developments abroad to protect every Cryptocurrency user's privacy with their latest project Kovri. Monero's privacy is protected on every level with completely different approaches, using Stealth Addresses to hide sender and receiver addresses, Ring Signatures to obfuscate the blockchain and RingCT to cover the amounts sent - ensuring your on-chain transaction info can never be recovered..Other privacy coins including but not limited to Particl, Zencash, Dash and Zcash are welcome to the discussion - but the main focus today is between these two communities, so let's make the most of it ;)Important Reminder: Do not upvote or downvote posts soley on your personal Cryptocurrency preference. Vote based on merit, expression of voice and the solid backing of comments. This is an education-driven, not an emotion-driven debate =D!.Enjoy, stay civil, and let the fun begin!

The 32 ETH club (compounded staking rewards)

Current cost for a minimum non-pool staking share is ~$8,800 USD – is it a good time to invest for the long-term?It’s been made clear many times the goal with implementation of Casper/sharding is to allow anyone with the means to purchase 32 ETH to be able to individually stake on the network, creating returns of around 5% annually. Based on current prices and inflation I made up some projections of possible staking rewards over time based on a current investment of 32 ETH. Of course the results are based on a number of assumptions…This is based on YOY inflation of 7.7% (Aug 2017- Aug 2018) with the assumption that inflation will average 1.25% with Casper, and that Casper will be released by this time next year. Also, assuming there is a chance there is an issuance reduction from 3 ETH to 1 ETH which could take place during Constantinople release, this could increase overall ROI an average of ~5.5%.If you look at the chart you’ll see that for each marketcap teir level I have compounded the projected staking rewards for 32 ETH over 10 years. Obviously this is not realistic as the marketcap will not remain the same for a 10 year period but it does show how powerful compounded staking rewards can be to a long-term investor.https://ift.tt/2MvR6eD the price as low as it is right now a ~$8,800 investment stake in Ethereum seems like a no-brainer. We’ve already reached a $120 billion marketcap without adoption or many use cases driven mostly by retail investors and speculators. When actual adoption happens and ETH is being used around the world for hundreds if not thousands of different use cases it hard to believe that it won’t become a multi-trillion dollar network someday. Also, on the other hand assuming ETH only ever reaches and maintains a $200 bln marketcap a purchase of 32 ETH today at $275 USD could produce a return of 935% over 10 years. Even a $100 bln marketcap will produce a return of 417% over 10 years. That’s an average of 93% and 43% per year respectively.Edit: Formatting

It Feels Like The Market Has Now Been Squeezed to a Rational Residual?

Happy to see this latest round of SEC ETF rejections and "China Ban News" had limited effect on the price of BTC; which represents a stark contrast to the panicky, irrational behavior we've observed from the market over the past 7 months. It's feeling like a step towards post-capitulation, with a holder constituency that is not as fallible as the FOMO speculators who rapidly on-boarded in December. That said, we might still be a tad good-news-immune as Bakkt's initiative and Mastercard's cryptocurrency settlement-process patent have seemingly had no impact on market sentiment. On another note, it will be interesting to see how participation of "public" ICOs is going forward; the market is feeling saturated with theoretical "vapour" solutions to problems that don't exist yet -- what are we on, theoretical blockchain 4.0 now? Beyond that, the current bloody state of the alt-market has created a "ICO-like" opportunity for buying in to projects that are further along in development than their nascent ICO counterparts.I think the pull-back from ICO hype for existing alt-coin projects has largely already occurred; hopefully moving forward the differentiation between market caps will be based on actual occurrences and not supposed future developments.I don't know about ya'll but my appetite for new projects has declined, I'm really just waiting for the projects I'm invested in to move up the ranks over the coming years at this point; though I will obviously keep a keen eye on potential competitors. What's everyone else's feeling? A real hodler constituency now? Hungry for new projects? Content to see the roadmaps of the existing projects play out? Don't care about an ETF anymore?

The Market Cycle. Anyone who read/understood this pattern sold in January.

An interesting read...The Market Cycle Wears No ClothesA Psychosocial Field Guide to Cryptocurrency’s Most Important Patternhttps://medium.com/@cryptology.jones/marketcycle-4e5407d0c68Extracts from article:"What follows is the single most important thing I learned in 12 months of intense study."Since 2010, the lifecycle of financial bubbles has played double-duty as Bitcoin’s market cycle. It is our asset class’s calendar of emotional seasons, and it’s the cryptocurrency market’s Rosetta Stone.Currently (at the time of writing) we’re near the end of Bitcoin’s 4th overall cycle, near the bottom of the bear market stage. (This article was published in August 2018).Bitcoin’s Market Cycle Stage 1: AccumulationThis stage lasts many months.Everything is low. Low prices, low volume, low volatility, low expectations. The bottom may be in, but retail investors are traumatized and fear further losses.Stage 2: Bull MarketA widely-anticipated regulatory fundamental news event acts as catalyst to push price to levels unseen since the early days of the bear market. In its first 100 days of price discovery, Bitcoin nearly doubles its old all-time-high.Stage 2, Part 2: ParabolaBitcoin’s price grows at a parabolic rate from this point forward. Retail FOMO becomes a global phenomenon.Retail buyers who sold in frustration after the last crash are now buying back in as price approaches its top.The timeframe for this last parabolic wave of buying has been amazingly consistent cross-parabola. Historically, all four times it’s lasted 5–7 weeks**. (Put that in your back pocket).**Stage 3: Smart Money Takes ProfitMost retail investors think it’s a healthy correction and aren’t selling. This period lasts roughly 6–8 weeks.Stage 4: Bear MarketRetail investors who haven’t been through a full market cycle fail to take profit, and are rekt. The final drop happens suddenly, on high volume, triggering an impulse wave of stoplosses and panic selling. It appears as a long wick on the daily chart. Many retail investors have just sold the bottom. The Fifth Parabola"Picture a financial instrument: from its inception, it has done one specific thing, and done it cyclically, four times in eight years, at ever-increasing rates of scale. Do you think Bitcoin will stop doing the thing it’s done four times in a row? The highest probability scenario is that the market cycle repeats itself a fifth time. "...People understanding this can prepare for the next bull run, thing is we may need to drop another 20% before the bottom is in, that and most alt coins will not survive the next bull run :(

We don't need the ETF

I hope none of you guys are still hoping for an ETF, it might actually be bad for BTC, just like futures in 2017 all over again. Whales will have more leverage to short the market and manipulate it down. CBOE is the only etf that has a chance. Look at all the etf's that were rejected by the SEC today, BTC barely dumped. We are probably at the bottom, the support bitcoin is at doesn't want to break.

Discussion: There was insider trading preceding today's news of two ETFs being denied. Extremely sharp decline from 6600-6300 in the early morning hours. ETF was denied on grounds of manipulation, can we have someone put in prison?

Obviously there were people anticipating the ETF being denied today which was priced in, but the HUGE volume that came in out of no where seems to me, without a fraction of doubt in my mind, insiders receiving news on today's decision and dumping before anyone knew. They want to keep us from having an ETF on grounds of manipulation while they are the ones manipulating. This is hypocrisy at its finest.

If they can randomly suspend an account with 700k in it without sending a single email explaining what's going on, and ghosting me for over 24 hours, it really shows what kind of scummy bullshit business they are running.

The B-Ex.io exchange continues to selectively scam and steal funds from users, then blames the users. I still have over $40,000+ on their exchange. Spread the word and stop users from depositing their funds there.

Hello /r/cryptocurrency,This exchange is known for not allowing users to withdraw their funds. If you deposit large amounts, they prefer to just keep your funds rather than making money legitimately, so they will do all sorts of different tactics to try to prevent you from withdrawing them or blame you for making a mistake in the withdrawal process somewhere along the way. This exchange offers free listings to encourage people to deposit their coins, then refuses to withdraw them. All withdrawals on their exchange need “manual approval” for this reason. In addition, they have almost no volume - it is nearly all fake. You can see some tweets here:https://twitter.com/8thContinentBit/status/1027479585443733504https://twitter.com/AnoncoinProject/status/1028003599220137984Here’s my particular situation with them. After my [last thread here](https://ift.tt/2My40VD) about the b-ex.io exchange, they acknowledged their “mistake” about 4 BTC worth of funds “disappearing” from my account and re-credited it to my b-ex.io account. However, I knew immediately that there was no way they would want me withdrawing these coins. You can follow the ridiculous order of events here on Bitcointalk:https://ift.tt/2ByAn5D, after my last reddit thread, they posted on Bitcointalk:“Now we will not process your 140,000 coin application until a public apology is made in the community.”They also tried to deem me as the scammer, which is impossible/ridiculous and everyone saw right through it considering I hold $0 of their funds, while they hold all of mine. That statement was nothing more than another reason for them to not process my withdrawal. Also, this was my SECOND withdrawal on their site. My first withdrawal of 340,000 tokens was deliberately moved to an incorrect address. The next few days were spent with them trying to get me to “apologize” before returning my funds. As illegal and ridiculous as this is, I went through with what they asked and apologized both on Bitcointalk and Reddit for the post. If they were actually willing to return my coins to me and right their mistake, I had no problem apologizing. So this was the apology:https://ift.tt/2vZtJjC good apology, but remember the last thing they want to do is actually return my coins. So they emailed me this:“Hello,We are very pleased to see your apology. But it seems that you did not mention the 340,000 tokens, and we are equally concerned about your statement on this matter. Please make a clear statement in your Reddit and bitcointalk apology, who made the wrong 340,000 withdrawal , because this incident has a serious impact on our website, please clearly explain the matter and on Twitter Published.”So now their intentions were clear. They are now holding my 2nd withdrawal of 140,000 tokens hostage, in order to try to get me to admit that it was me who entered the incorrect withdrawal address for the 1st withdrawal so that they can keep those funds without any contention. Considering I took videos/screenshots of all my withdrawals there (I even showed them two of the screenshots for the first withdrawal), they were trying to get me to lie about it and say it was me who entered a completely different address.Everyone on Bitcointalk called them out for how ridiculous this situation was, and they stopped responding. They now still hold all of my coins, still (480,000 tokens), over $50,000 USD.I need some recommendations on what sort of action would be best to take against this exchange. Some people have suggested the CSRC, as it is located in China. Anyone with experience dealing with fraud like this - any help or guidance is appreciated! In addition, we need to make sure as a community that exchanges cannot get away with stealing funds like this, walk away and continue scamming other users. They continue to list new projects:https://twitter.com/cryptoangelcoin/status/1028988326580297728We need to take action as a community against exchanges like this and prevent them from continuing to scam new users and steal their funds. If you recognize any of the projects they have listed (XMV, XCN, VTR, RATING, ANGEL) - make sure to reach out to those project leaders and warn them about this exchange before more users get their funds stolen.

In 2014 I sold 20+ Bitcoins at a 45% loss... Some investment advice.

My post when I sold https://ift.tt/2OTyVfD was over invested and under researched.I continued to read more and more and eventually bought back in.I almost spent 1 BTC on 2000 ETH in the crowd sale but they didn't even have a working product then so I said fuck that. I have NO regrets about that as I would still not invest in vapourware. I've stuck to this rule so resisted pretty much every single alt and ICO, even through the mad bull run last year I stuck to my rule. After ETH proved it's self and didn't collapse after the DAO I bought a bunch at around $20. When it hit $120 a few months later I sold some and paid off some debts, I still hodl the rest.I read about this shit every single day, listen to podcasts that interview thought leaders and developers in the space, I put 1-2 hours a day for 5 years so far into reading about this. I have my eye on about 6 alts but have still not FOMO'd in as there will be plenty of time if they prove themselves. To date the only coins I have bought are BTC and ETH but might invest a little in some others soon.Yes I've missed some stupendous alt gains but I'm still %1600 up on my initial investment. I HODL and don't day trade, I make 1 trade a year after shit tonnes of reading and listening.Crypto isn't going anywhere but %99 of these projects will fail, stick to the proven ones and be super patient, this is a 10+ year investment for me. Look for interviews with the teams behind the projects you like. Are they smart or shmucks? Is there a passionate team? Is the innovation truly needed on a blockchain? Are they just after money?Bear markets are the time to buy and move portfolio around.Forget coinmarketcap, this is a much better tool for comparing the health of a project https://ift.tt/2nWk3la luck.

Anyone else still hodling?

I just said fuck it and am holding. Pretty sure my portfolio actually dropped more than 50% because I still held on to icx. If I didn’t I would be ok with it. All I can do is sigh 😔. Hopefully this shit gets back on top.

BAKKT solution is much better than ETF

https://ift.tt/2vWCGdw media is promoting too much the ETF, but the solution Bakkt is much better and is coming soon!"A critical element to price discovery is physical delivery. Specifically, with our solution, the buying and selling of Bitcoin is fully collateralized or pre-funded. As such, our new daily Bitcoin contract will not be traded on margin, use leverage, or serve to create a paper claim on a real asset. This supports market integrity and differentiates our effort from existing futures and crypto exchanges which allow for margin, leverage and cash settlement. Coupled with a secure, regulated warehouse solution, you can begin to see how this market infrastructure can help more institutions and consumers participate in the asset class."ARTICLEhttps://medium.com/bakkt-blog/https-medium-com-kellyloeffler-price-discovery-f9c77885383RETWEEThttps://twitter.com/Bakkt/status/1031641472116899840https://twitter.com/Bakkt/status/1031533298902687744BAKKT is backed by Microsoft, Starbucks and Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE's owner)https://ift.tt/2ODEG1Q
