Reminder: The Binance "Up to 2 BTC, No KYC" is a con

Because of my post history in /r/Binance I periodically get people that DM me asking about ways to recover their funds from Binance after Binance has dropped the KYC hammer on them. There are lots of reasons people can't meet the KYC requirements, typically either they don't have the docs that Binance asks for (an example, I kid you not: "What was the IP address you used when you first signed up?") or they don't want to give the docs to Binance on principal. (What jurisdiction are they in again? How many times have they been compromised? Can I trust them with my passport or other sensitive documents?)I had yet another such discussion today with someone that had a significant amount of their money seized. So just a reminder folks - the "Up to 2 BTC, No KYC" claim is a lie. They frequently lock user funds and try to KYC you while transacting in volumes far less than that. When they lock your funds and KYC you for the first time they have no idea whether you are the person that opened the account or someone that just found your phone on a park bench.I used to post on the /r/Binance sub in response to users that had been locked out. I figured I could do some good, trying to encourage policy change so people wouldn't lose their money anymore. Instead they blocked me from posting in support of such users. Conversation with the moderator:https://ift.tt/3dPk5TI policies and actions speak volumes - Be safe out there.

the-blockchain.com is a Scam crypto-news website.

There has been an email-phishing scam happening to the Stellar community and other crypto communities lately.Documented here on r/CryptoCurrency couple of days ago:https://ift.tt/3gfbwTU on r/Stellar:https://ift.tt/2VwwlSS is the website link:(SCAM ARTICLE) www. the-blockchain. com/2020/06/26/stellar-unfurls-community-staking-marathon/ (SCAM ARTICLE)Within a couple hours of being notified of an email-phishing scam happening to community members, I Googled 'Stellar news'. To my shock, this random website 'the-blockchain.com' was near the top with a new post made '2 hours ago' (no images my bad). The website link is the page I posted above. If you Google 'Stellar news' now, you can't even find it. The webpage with the spoofed account viewer is still live however. It's clear this website is a scammer website that is used by the same email-phishing scammers. No one would be dumb enough to re-post a scam article without actually partaking in the scam and/or realizing that the free lumens it's promoting simply empties your wallet the second you post your secret key in the input field. This is not only a post to call-out the recent scam happening and to watch out for further scams, but this post is to highlight the fact that scammers will use 'news websites' to further their own scams and garner trust faster.Stay safe everyone.

How I plan to identify and sell the top of the next market cycle.

In this post I will share with you some of the strategies I will use to identify the next market cycle top so I can sell for maximum profits (and of course buy back in later in the subsequent bear market!) In the first part of this post I will discuss the resources I will use and in the second part I will discuss tactics in selling and risk management.IndicatorsAs the bull run begins to drag on and the price of ETH starts getting closer and closer to $10k I will begin to start watching many of the data science charts over at Look into Bitcoin. This will not be the only source I will use since there are great custom tools on TradingView too as well as more subjective indicators such as friends and family talking crypto and hearing about crypto again in the mainstream media. I’d also like to note that many of the indicators I will be looking at will be Bitcoin focused despite my ETH centred portfolio. Like it or not, this market is still Bitcoin dominated and despite the many proponents of an ETH flippening (myself included), it is quite likely that we will not see it this cycle due to the macro investing environment favouring assets which are good stores of value to weather the uncertainty. Ultimately, Bitcoin has the best store of value meme in crypto and that will be very powerful in the coming years.I think it is likely that the time for Ethereum or a network like Ethereum with a yielding asset (ETH under ETH 2.0) and a native economy of DeFi, DApps, NFTs and much more will be once all of the stock market uncertainty is over and investors are ready to take on more risk again. I am of course still expecting Ethereum and altcoins to outperform Bitcoin this cycle. However, I think that Bitcoin losing the number 1 spot will be more likely to happen between 2023 and 2030 rather than in the next 2-3 years. I hope I am wrong though. While most of the indicators on Looking into Bitcoin are useful, I will list the ones I’ll be focusing on the most here:MVRV Z-ScorePuell MultiplePi Cycle Top IndicatorReserve RiskAnd finally my favourite, the Golden Ratio Multiplier. This indicator has been remarkably accurate at predicting tops using the golden ratio (1.6) and the fibonacci sequence (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21) multiplied by the 350 day moving average. With each market cycle, the 350 day moving average is multiplied by the next number down in the fibonacci sequence. For example, the 2013 peak only just passed above the 350 day moving average multiplied by 8 and the 2017 bull market just touched the 350 day moving average multiplied by 5. So if this indicator is to work in the next cycle, we can expect the price to slightly exceed 3 times the value of the 350 day moving average. This indicator also worked for Ethereum in the 2017 bull run. While there is no graph for it, on the 13th of January, when ETH hit a peak of $1,419, the 350 day moving average was at $270. $270 multiplied by 5 is $1,350. If you sold at $1,350 you sold incredibly close to the top and I don’t think that any macro traders/long term traders would complain about that timing.I’d like to note that while indicators like the Golden Ratio Multiplier factors in for less explosive growth each cycle, not all of the above indicators do. So be cautious of this when you think the peak is near as it may be closer than you think. In saying that, there is a lot of luck involved so I should also point out that it also might not be closer than you think. However, it would be better to sell before the peak at say $10,000/BTC as of 2017 than to be left holding all of your crypto when the bear market begins since Bitcoin didn’t spend much time above $10,000/BTC after the $20K peak. Ultimately it is up to you to decide your risk appetite and how well you want to try and time the market. For me, I will definitely be on the conservative side so that I don’t miss the boat completely and hopefully I will be able to sell most of my crypto just before we peak rather than afterwards.Risk ManagementSince timing the top requires a lot of luck, a good method of mitigating the risk is to spread out when you sell. I’m going to share with you my personal strategy but I recommend that you create your own strategy or use this as a basis from which you can use to adjust and tweak it to optimally suit your situation. If you have a large stack, you will probably want to sell early since you might not need such spectacular gains to lock in some life changing money. On the other hand, if you have a smaller stack or if you are younger, you can afford to take more risk and might want to try and time the absolute peak a bit better to get that much closer to making some life changing money. Personally, while my stack isn’t very big in dollar terms, it is a significant % of my net worth and so I don’t have a high risk tolerance with it (at least relative to other people in crypto!) For this reason I will be selling a little bit on the early side.My plan has three pots of crypto. 20% of my crypto I will hold indefinitely since I very strongly believe in the long term prospect of ETH and BTC as investments. This way if I time the markets terribly, I will always have some skin in the crypto game. The second pot of crypto is 40% which I will sell on the way up to take some profits and I don’t intend on putting this money back into crypto. Initially I will be selling very small amounts of this 40% and as the indicators listed above get closer and closer to calling a top, I will sell larger proportions of this crypto. I haven’t set specific target numbers since things change fast in this space and I feel like the best decisions in this case are made in the moment. For example, estimating a market top is hard when it is 2-3 years away, but it is much easier when it is just months or weeks away. Once again, this is just personal preference. Many of you will find that setting targets now makes it easier for you to pull the trigger and take some profits when everyone else is calling $1M BTC while it is at $100K or calling for $100K ETH when the current price might be $10K.Finally, the last 40% I will sell all at once when I feel like we are at the top and I am confident that the price will be lower a year on from that point in time. With this 40% I will try and buy back during the bear market with the help of many of the same indicators I listed above from Look into Bitcoin. I will also use some indicators which I didn’t mention above since some are better designed at identifying market bottoms. My goal is to be able to buy back the number of BTC and ETH I held before I sold anything with this 40% (plus the 20% I didn’t sell). This is a big ask but it is better in life to set hard goals that seem unattainable or unrealistic than it is to set easy goals. To summarise my portfolio strategy, 20% of my portfolio is an indefinite hold, 40% I will sell on the way up and I do not intend on buying back into crypto with this money so I can avoid being over-exposed to crypto. The last 40% I will use to try and sell the top and buy the bottom.Closing NotesAs a closing note I would like to say that it will be important to be aware of the power of greed and FOMO. Do not under-estimate these emotions and try to remain a grounded and rational investor. Don’t be scared to take profits. I know from experience trading altcoins that it is better to exit a position early and miss out on another 100% price increase than it is to hold through a bear market and take >90% losses. If you go into this bullrun telling yourself you will take profits on the way up, you will have no reason to regret any early sales since you will know that you made a rational trade and not an emotional trade.

PPoS vs PoS vs PoW – Algorand Example

https://ift.tt/38fvk6Q makes use of a pure proof of stake (PPoS) consensus protocol that was created on the Byzantine consensus. With this, it is possible for every user to have an influence on the choice of a new block and that influence is proportional to its stake, which is the number of tokens in the system. Based on this consensus, various users are being chosen randomly and secretly to make a choice and vote on block proposals. Any user online can be chosen to propose and vote. The chances of a user being selected and the influence their vote or proposals would have is also directly proportional to its stake. The approach of the Algorand PPoS is to engage the entire economy security with the honesty of the majority of the economy, other than tying it with that of a small subset of the economy. When a large amount of the money is in honest hands then the system’s security is guaranteed. There are however some other approaches whereby the security of the entire economy can be determined by just a small subset of the economy, this means that just a few users can stop other users from transacting. But with Algorand, it is not possible for a small fraction of owners of the money to disrupt the entire system and it would be unwise for the owners of the majority of the money to act otherwise because it would decrease the purchasing power of the currency which will end up devaluing their own assets.Advantages of PPoS Over other ConsensusPPoS over proof of work: Proof of work is simply a system where each user tries to find solutions for complex cryptographic arithmetics, in a process known as mining. The first person to find a solution is given the opportunity to append the new block on the chain and there is a reward for such. A lot of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum make use of this method. However, the PPoS has a lot of advantages over the PoW. One of the advantages is that PPoS is less expensive compared to PoW. In Pow, mining needs specialized hardware before it can be competitive and it usually consumes a large amount of electricity. Only miners that are professionals and have made the necessary capital expenditure to purchase racks of specialized mining equipment can have the expectations of making a profit. Also, PoW guides along the path to a concentration of power and de facto centralization because miners pool their resources. The mining pols have the ability to remove blocks and charge the order of blocks based on how they perceive it or if they get bribed to do so. For instance, Bitcoin is under the control of three mining pools and Ethereum is controlled by two mining pools. Also, in the PoW systems, it takes about ten minutes for the blocks to be propagated to the network. This remains the case irrespective of the number of users that try to solve the cryptographic puzzle. This amount of sluggishness and lack of availability makes it insufficient to serve any financial economy or the global economy at large. But in Algorand, with its low communication overhead and computation, blocks are still being propagated in few seconds. This makes it possible for the protocol to scale to millions of users and sustain a high rate of the transaction.PPoS Vs. Delegated Proof of Stake: Delegated proof of stake is simply a type of approach in which a certain number of entities that were elected and delegates are chosen to create blocks in a form of round-robin. The delegates are being voted into power by the users of the network and their number of votes is also proportional to the number of tokens that they own on the network. Because of the limited number of block producers, delegated proof of stake can confidently handle transactions that are in multiple orders of greater magnitude than the PoW. But in terms of scalability, DPoS makes a sacrifice in decentralization and security is on the line. DPoS is entirely centralized and there is no certainty that all the delegates would be honest. Even in a case where they are honest, they are prone to attacks. Due to the fact that the delegates are known, even if they occupy power for just a short while, a very good adversary can bring them down with just a fast denial of service (DoS) attack. Unlike the delegated proof of stake (DPoS), the pure proof of stake PPoS does not put just a small set of users in charge of the generation of blocks and users do not have to delegate their power to vote to only a selected few. In the PPoS, every user can propose and vote on blocks and having a probability that is directly proportional to their stake and unlike the DPoS, there is no delegated group of users that attackers can sight as a target.PPoS vs Bonded Proof of Stake: The bonded proof of stake is basically an approach with which any number of users would set aside some part of their stake for some time in term of a security deposit and they get back a chance that is proportional to their set aside stake to select the next block. Their power to vote in the protocol is proportional to the amount of stake that they have decided to lock up. When the deposit has been made, there is no way it can be taken off until a certain amount of time has gone by. In the case of these users being dishonest, they will have to forfeit their deposit and also the chance of participating in the consensus process. However, the major disadvantage of the BPoS is that the users can reduce the right to spend their stake by simply participating in the consensus protocol. The PPoS on the other hand, would not require that users set aside some part of their stake so as to participate in the consensus protocol, and also, participating in the consensus protocol does not take away the ability of a user to spend their stake.

Also I am located in Belgium if it matters.

I'm learning about proof of stake and I'm kinda confused. Most sources I've come across say that the first proof of stake was peercoin but it was a mix with proof of work or something, and then there were NXT, blackcoin, and several others. But then I also see a project called Algorand claiming they’re the first “pure proof of stake” platform. What is the difference? Does that mean Algorand is the first proof of stake? This is so confusing..And if it’s not correct, why are they claiming it?

I posted here somewhat recently about testing an idea I had for Nano users. Here's that post:https://ift.tt/3gcDnUJ is, basically, a copy of a post I made yesterday in r/nanocurrency. I didn't get much of a response. And the most upvoted response was someone telling people that it's probably a scam. Anyhow, I really would like to hire someone that is interested in modern, Organic vertical farming. And it would also be cool if this person were into crypto since we talk about it a bunch on the farm AND this job is semi crypto-related. Anyhow, here's the post for a job on my farm for the person who is interested:I have a modern vertical farm in the Southern California desert. It's pretty awesome, in my opinion. I am currently testing 4 of my greenhouses to begin figuring out how to do home deliveries via FedEx.I have decided to also test if Nano holders will actually use their Nano to purchase stuff. Since fruit and vegetables are eaten by most people, I think that this is a good test to see if people will pay with Nano.Ok, the job: I need to hire one amazing person to run this small project. It is a full time job. You will need to live near my farm. I WILL PAY FOR YOUR HOUSING. It's in the middle of the desert in Southern California and surrounded by small towns. It's about 2.5 hours from LA and about 2.5 hours from San Diego. Also sort of close to Palm Springs. Here's what your job will be:(1) You will be managing about 6,000 plants, growing in columns from floor to ceiling, that are growing in glass greenhouses. This includes seeding the plants, tending to the plants, harvesting the plants and packaging the plants for home deliveries.(2) You will be taught how to manage the automated systems and repair/replace pumps, lights, water lines, etc. You will also learn how to feed and care for our fish (we are an aquaponic farm).(3) We run a small bitcoin mining operation that is attached to the solar array and battery banks that power the farm. You will be taught how to manage the heat transfer from the mining rigs into our watering system.(4) You will likely answer customers' questions when they call or email us.This is a full-time job from now through September of this year. Once we have learned how to streamline our FedEx deliveries, we will begin to transition the rest of the farm over to this model and the position will integrate into our larger farm.Pay:(1) $16 per hour to begin PLUS housing in a nearby town.(2) Weekly bonuses for meeting and exceeding delivery numbers.(3) $20 per hour after one month of just doing the job correctly and being on-time everyday.(4) I'll pay you in Bitcoin or Nano if you want.(5) If we LOVE how you work and everyone on the farm really likes you and you are constantly exceeding our metrics, then I'll take your pay to $25 per hour and I will consider you for a small management position.(6) Profit sharing, which can be as much as $1,000 per month.I hope someone out there sees the opportunity in this position. Personally, for many people, I think it would be a dream job. I'm not just saying that. We're super nice people. Our farm is ultra modern. We're WAY into crypto (I actually mine bitcoin on this farm from my solar array). Our farm is 100% solar. We're 100% Organic. We are a 100% aquaponic farm. Look up "aquaponics" if you're bored. Our fruits and vegetables are SUPER high quality. Our greenhouses are unlike anything most people would have ever seen. We use all kinds of modern tech. Our greenhouses can be 65F (18C) in the middle of Summer when it is 122F (55C) outside. You will work in the desert during the Summer but it will be very comfortable inside the greenhouses. And we also filter out the UV light.Anyhow, I'm gonna test my home delivery to the Nano community initially (unless there are not enough Nano holders willing to part with their Nano). The only payment option will be Nano. It would be awesome to hire someone from the Nano or CryptoCurrency community to run this small project. Maybe this community can help me find someone who is actually interested in this job and willing to work to make a decent living.I need someone who can work hard. Someone who is willing to get dirty (literally). Someone who is into this method of farming. And, ideally, someone who is WAY into crypto. If you are extremely interested in this opportunity, let me know. If you know someone who you think would be perfect, let them know. Thank you, Dan.

Discussion of the Day: NavCoin NAV

-Today's Crypto of the Day is NavCoin NAV, and it's current price is $0.1181.DUE TO SOME PERSONAL ISSUES, I AM TEMPORARILY BEHIND ON FOLLOW UP POSTS. I WILL EVENTUALLY CATCH UP AND POST MY OPINIONS ON ALL OF THEM. I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE LOW EFFORT POSTS AND WILL DO MY BEST TO POST A NEW DISCUSSION DAILY FOR A WHILE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING. I AM FINALLY STARTING TO FOLLOW UP ON SOME RECENT POSTS. -Since 2/18/20, I have posted a crypto/asset of the day for discussion.  I typically begin by posting the current price, as well as the brief CoinMarketCap summary. If there is a video featuring it on Coin Bureau, I also post that. After a week or so, I usually post replies to some of the posts, and I also add an overall summary of my thoughts, if I plan to hold any, and is so how much. -I strongly encourage everyone to follow up on past discussions and you can still make comments on them. There is a lot of valuable information on many of these posts, so please check them out as you have time. You may learn a lot regarding some of these projects. I know I certainly did! https://ift.tt/2x5amJz first month or so I featured projects listed on some of the main exchanges. Now I plan to focus on the top 100 on CoinMarketCap. After that I expect to broaden to the top 200, and then some random moonshots. I will eventually create a post looking for any projects I should feature before I eventually close this project.-Just because I feature a project does not mean I like it. I feel discussion on bad projects are just as important as the good ones. It is useful to hear pros and cons about every project, even if you are simply playing devils advocate.-I would say a perfect reply would include at least one pro and at least one con for the project. However, I still feel it is acceptable if you post only pros or cons. If your post does not have any substance to it, "this coin is a scam", "avoid this shitcoin", "this coin will moon to $1000 by the end of 2020", then I will just assume you are posting for personal gain rather than helping the community.  If you simply downvote the post without any comments, the only thing you accomplish is having less people view the post. I do not care about Reddit Karma, but if a post drops to zero early on, it can be extremely difficult for people to even find these discussions (which I assume is your intention). -These posts are not meant to be financial advice, but instead to be an educational discussion. Everyone is responsible for doing their own research. For each project, I am interested in learning if you have any investment in it, and if so, about what percentage of your portfolio does it carry. Most importantly, what should we all know; good, bad, and indifferent, about this project?

PSA: Keep your wallet recovery codes safe (story)

I’ve very recently come to the end of a story that should help to remind others about why its so important to back up your codes properly.Ive been into crypto for a few years and have slowly amassed a respectable but not major amount of crypto. I purchased a Ledger Nano S hardware wallet to store my purchases because I knew the importance of keeping it offline. Something I paid less attention to was my recovery codes. Its important for me to state that I spend my time inbetween two different countries. I’m reside In one country for several months a year to work, but am a national of another country and spend time in my home country at intervals throughout the year. Due to this, I had always kept my crypto devices and info in my country of work/residence.Going back to my Ledger, I knew it was important to keep my recovery codes. I wrote them down in a notebook and put it in my apartment safely. I very rarely lose valuables, so I figured I’d never really need it.All was going well. My Ledger never leaves my house so I never have a risk of losing it....then Covid 19 hits. I happened to be on holiday while the corona virus outbreaks started to really hit hard. As it was a two week stay, I had decided not to take my Ledger with me. The prices wont change that much in two weeks I thought. For personal reasons, i decided to travel from my holiday destination to my home country (it was deemed safer to do so). I’m now separated from my crypto. As most of you know, prices dropped like a stone at first. I felt helpless, but in hindsight at least I couldn’t panic sell. Prices then recovered and all was good. I just needed to get back to my country of work and back to my Ledger. Then, of course, airports and flights were shut off. I was grounded thousands of miles away from my ledger and more importantly my recovery codes. I’ve sat for nearly 6 months, utterly helpless as the prices went down and went up. More importantly for all your hodlers our there, I couldnt even be sure that my savings would still be there when I got back. Empty apartments tend to go noticed after a while and there was nothing I could do about it.This story does have a happy ending. After 6 months i have finally managed to gain access to the codes and transfer my balances to a new wallet. i wanted to share my story to highlight How vital it is to have your recovery codes in a secure location and back up copies held in places that you frequent. You May not get trapped abroad like me, but fires, accidental damage and theft are just as prevalent and easy to suffer from. Back your codes people. Don’t keep all of your eggs in one basket.TLDR: Got stranded 5000 miles away from my Ledger and recovery codes due to corona virus. Had to wait 6 months to regain access to my crypto currency.

What’s your goal for your crypto portfolio?

I started with thinking I want 1 whole BTC before I stop converting my fiat. Midway through, with all the ups and downs in price, I thought I’d put in 200 bucks a month for 18 months, and see where I land. However, the goal keeps changing, as does my interest in crypto coins (ETH, ADA) outside of BTC.What is your goal? Are you all in, moon or bust? Or averaging monthly for a specific amount of time? Any amount of BTC that would make you stop and diversity in other assets?Just curious.

SIA press release: Quant Network and SIA successfully tested blockchain interoperability

The breakthrough was achieved by integrating Quant Network’s Overledger technology into the SIAchain private blockchain infrastructure to enable cross-platform applications and services in Europe and globallyLondon and Milan, 24 June 2020 – Quant Network, a leading pioneer in enterprise blockchain technology, and SIA, European hi-tech company leader in the fields of payment services and infrastructures and a subsidiary of CDP Equity, have successfully tested cross blockchain interoperability between multiple Distributed Ledger Technology protocols. The breakthrough was achieved by integrating Quant Network’s Overledger technology (the world’s only DLT operating system that allows interoperability) into the SIAchain private blockchain infrastructure leveraging on 580 European network nodes within SIAnet (the fiber optic network with high-speed and low-latency stretching over 208,000 kilometres). This integration provides the ability to bridge permissioned blockchain instances between SIAchain and other external networks – which could not be previously connected - in order to have cross-platform applications and services covering for example notarisation, payments and KYC.The development of the solution began in mid-2019 and a full program of testing has been executed on SIAchain, R3 Corda and private Ethereum platforms.Quant Network and SIA will now work together to go to the market developing and implementing further innovative use cases and applications addressing blockchain interoperability challenges. This important milestone is the result of a partnership launched between Quant Network and SIA that allows mostly banks and financial institutions - through the SIAchain infrastructure - to adopt cross-platform and interoperable blockchain solutions and to embrace new business models, improve operational efficiencies and deliver innovation to banking customers.“The partnership between Quant Network and SIA has been extremely positive and productive from the very start,” said Gilbert Verdian, CEO, Quant Network, “and both companies are confident that this development will play an integral part in building the financial infrastructure of the future globally.”“The achievement of a fully interoperable blockchain network, through our collaboration with Quant Network, is another key-element in our path of bringing innovation and state-of-the-art technologies for supporting banks, financial institutions, corporates and public administration bodies to extend their capabilities in integrating different DLT business applications” said Daniele Savarè, Innovation & Business Solutions Director SIA.SIA press releaseQuant Network press releaseEDIT: Reposted as text message instead of link post

question for the crypto-chads

So I'm essentially the potential crypto investor that's getting meme'd to heck on here.I've worked within the financial industry so essentially this stuff is like weird pagan rituals to me XDI'd like some reasoned opinions, and as someone who again has worked in finance can tell a lot of the advice being passed around on here is people hoping to pump their own portfolios.Main question for the chads. Why is now, not a month ago and not any point in the future, a good idea to move assets.I'm sitting at a precarious spot financially due to the pandemic, and would be willing to put the time needed into learning this market properly if I can get some responses that don't seem like someone selling their niche unheard of currency or platform to me.Even bankers/former bankers see where this is all going, the jumping on point is whats unclear.I enjoy dialogue so i encourage any comments if i get some to please argue the heck out of it XD I prefer a multitude of opinions to draw from in creating my own. Thanks for your time in reading this!

10 famous cryptocurrency quotes and what we can learn from them - read and don't look like a fool anymore :P

“If you don’t believe it or don’t get it, I don’t have the time to try to convince you, sorry.” – Satoshi NakamotoThis is an early quote from Satoshi Nakamoto to the Bitcoin doubters on the forums. Since those early days, a whole industry has been created around his invention. With hindsight, it is easy to say that perhaps people should have listened, but what was created was something entirely unique and therefore difficult for many to understand. A key aspect of this message is that to understand Bitcoin, you need to put the time and effort in to learn on your own. Mistakes can easily be made by trusting unscrupulous actors.“It’s money 2.0, a huge, huge, huge deal.”  – Chamath Palihapitiya, venture capitalistChamath Palihapitiya was an early employee at Facebook before moving on and setting up his own investment fund. By 2015, his fund had over $1.1 billion in assets, and he also became a minority shareholder of the Golden State Warriors NBA team. Despite stating he is a disciple of Warren Buffett, they do disagree on the notion of Bitcoin. Palihapitiya is a strong believer in the cryptocurrency. He believes that within the next 20 years, Bitcoin will rise to $1 million.“It’s a fraud” and “worse than tulip bulbs” – Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP MorganUnsurprisingly, the boss of JP Morgan – Jamie Dimon – isn’t much of a fan of Bitcoin. This quote from Mr Dimon in 2017 was spoken during the most recent Bitcoin bubble. Since then however, JP Morgan has announced its own form of cryptocurrency, suggesting the banking titan isn’t as adverse to crypto as the quote suggests. One of Bitcoin’s main aims is to remove the need for such huge banks as JP Morgan, so it is unlikely that Jamie Dimon will ever change his mind.“Stay away from it. It’s a mirage, basically. In terms of cryptocurrencies, generally, I can say almost with certainty that they will come to a bad ending.”  –  Warren Buffett, legendary investorComing back to the traditional finance sector, the fact that Buffet isn’t a fan of Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general is to be expected. Buffett’s fortune has been accumulated through traditional assets and a patient approach. The risk and volatility seen in cryptocurrencies would be an instant warning sign to the famous investor. Buffett has been notoriously adverse to upcoming technology stocks, so a punt on Bitcoin isn’t going to be happening any time soon.“I do think Bitcoin is the first [encrypted money] that has the potential to do something like change the world.” – Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPalPeter Thiel and his team had a similar idea to Bitcoin when in the process of creating PayPal. However, at the time, they were unable to get their idea off the ground. Peter Thiel is now one of the largest venture capitalists in Silicon Valley and a staunch Randian. These two factors should show why he has an interest in Bitcoin.“Bitcoin actually has the balance and incentives center, and that is why it is starting to take off.” – Julian Assange, founder of WikileaksBitcoin and Wikileaks have a long relationship. Indeed, without Bitcoin, there may not be a Wikileaks as we know it. When the major credit card companies attempted to block payments to Wikileaks, the company asked for donations in Bitcoin instead, which allowed it to survive. Nakamoto was adverse to supporting Wikileaks due to the pressure it would put on the young network. Julian Assange himself is one of the earlier cypherpunks, regularly interacting with members on the CypherPunk mailing list from 1995. Ideas such as Bitcoin were common on the mailing list, so when Bitcoin was finally released, the fact that Wikileaks appropriated it is not surprising.“The Federal Reserve simply does not have authority to supervise or regulate Bitcoin in any way.” – Janet Yellen, former chair of the US Federal ReserveJanet Yellen highlights a key aspect of Bitcoin in her quote. Bitcoin is not a US cryptocurrency. Instead, it is the first truly global currency. It isn’t run by anyone in particular, but anyone who wants to get involved can do so. This makes it extremely difficult for the authorities to formulate regulations around Bitcoin. This also makes Bitcoin extremely difficult to stop. Many bans have been rumoured throughout the years, but this has never stopped Bitcoin from progressing.“Whereas most technologies tend to automate workers on the periphery doing menial tasks, blockchains automate away the center. Instead of putting the taxi driver out of a job, blockchain puts Uber out of a job and lets the taxi drivers work with the customer directly.” – Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of EthereumButerin’s quote recognises the removal of third parties that cryptocurrencies allow for. Instead of a company like Uber or say Dropbox taking a cut of the profits, this can all be managed in a peer-to-peer manner through cryptocurrencies. This increases the profits for you and me, reduces costs, and can help remove some of the largest corporations in the world in the hope of creating a fairer economy.“I see Bitcoin as ultimately becoming a reserve currency for banks, playing much the same role as gold did in the early days of banking. Banks could issue digital cash with greater anonymity and lighter weight, more efficient transactions.” – Hal FinneyThis early quote from Hal Finney shows that he understood the possibilities of Bitcoin from a very early stage. This was helped by the many discussions that took place on the CypherPunk mailing list in the 1990s, whereby digital currencies and issues of privacy were constantly discussed and philosophised.“Since we’re all rich with Bitcoins … we ought to put some of this unearned wealth to good use.” – Hal FinneyHal Finney is one of the few people involved in Bitcoin who is liked by everyone. Even Faketoshi has a soft spot for Finney. Sadly, Finney passed away before he could witness the beast that Bitcoin evolved into. Finney was an early contributor to the CypherPunk mailing list like Assange, and was instrumental in helping Bitcoin grow from day one. This quote above highlights what all who have become rich through Bitcoin should do – give back and help others.

The Story Of My First Bitcoin. (Late 2013)

The story of my first Bitcoin. I feel as it’s an important time to tell again. Hopefully others can learn from my mistakes. In late 2013 (I was 22 at the time) my brother told me all about this new type of internet money, that no single entity controlled, it intrigued me. I decided to cash in the change I had been collecting for the past year to buy my first bitcoin at $740 Canadian. Saw it rise to over $1000 USD then the Mt.Gox hack happened.. It nose dived to $200 USD and for about 2 years it felt like it did absolutely nothing.. Then it started to rise like a phoenix from the ashes. But I was uneducated on bitcoin and it’s halvings at the time. It hit around $1000 USD again, I had decided I would sell out of .7 because I was in profit and wasn’t sure if a huge hack would happen again. I bought CSGO skins sigh (digital video games skins) this was early 2017. I had to watch bitcoin triumphantly rise to $20,000 USD, thinking what have I done!! I held this thing for years!! The point I’m trying to make is don’t make the same mistake I did. Our previous ATH will be crushed just like every past one. I thought I would never be able to buy another bitcoin again but I was blessed with this bear market. $20,000 will be just like $1,000 was in 2017. I took it as an opportunity to rewrite my past mistake. If you can financially, please Hodl strong my friends. We are so close to something spectacular.

Why it's probably not a good idea to earn interest with the funding fee on Bitmex

I have been doing video's reviewing the options to earn interest in the crypto space, while researching the interest rate you might get on bitmex I was surprised to find that it was'nt that great. If you are not sure how to make interest on Bitmex check out my video posted at the bottom.https://ift.tt/37JNey6 you can see the only time you would of got a good rate is in 2017, and in that year btc went up 1300% which likely inflated the rate.If we ignore 2017 you would of actually lost 0.5% over the 3 years. While this is a bad indictment of earning interest on Bitmex it does mean that you would of been paid to go long on leverage, something any trader dreams of. Finally minus interest rates for the masses.Ultimately I think if you believe the crypto market will rise, you are better off buying crypto (maybe on Bitmex, risky). If you believe the market will fall, it is better to sell your crypto and lend out the funds, on say bitfinex, binance or other sites. Or even short on bitmex if you are feeling wild.Lending reviews / tutorialsEarning interest on bitmexBitfinex FundingBinance Savings

Change my mind: The "all premined coins are scams" discussion is, in and of itself, dumb.

Author's forenote: I totally get the logic behind the XRP argument. Anyone who has done enough research on the "birth" of XRP will see that, at one point, Ripple staff said XRP was gifted to them by an anonymous creator. Later on they say, "We created XRP..." bla bla bla. This discussion isn't about XRP, as I think if Ripple started from scratch in 2020 with the XRP token, many if not all exchanges and banks would laugh at them.Technically, gold was created before humanity ever was, and had no value before humanity discovered the properties that made it different from other metals. Mining gold did not give gold its value. Molting it, as well as discovering its scarcity, did this. The argument of, "Oh well, that just means they can mint more whenever they want." also seems a bit dumb. Who can do this and why would they do this? I mean, to the best of my knowledge I've only seen/heard of 51% attacks taking place on lower-market-cap coins like the odd bitcoin clone or even Ethereum Classic. Don't 51% attacks make more coins get minted to?At any rate, let's get some civil discussion going.

Discussion of the Day: Neblio (NEBL)

-Today's Crypto of the Day is Neblio (NEBL), and it's current price is $0.5856.DUE TO SOME PERSONAL ISSUES, I AM TEMPORARILY BEHIND ON FOLLOW UP POSTS.

For whoever is interested to know what happened since last time I posted about facing jail in UAE due to my bank debts regarding my 2017 crypto investment, I got some good news.

So few days after making the post on reddit, IRL consequences started to pop up from all of my ex-colleagues as internet connects everyone very quickly. At first I started to freak out and got very scared that my bank or uae gov find out that I made that post and enforce my possible sentence so I deleted everything to cover my back but it was too late anyway. Hundreds of websites already made arcticles on my situation, post originally made the cointelegraph and copied by all the rest, and eventually reached my ex co workerks who figured out who was involved as they knew I was heavy in debts and a crypto enthusiast. One of them that I cannot thank enough, started to raise funds across all the employees and managed to gather 27400$!!!Their generosity is saving my wife and I big time for a couple of months and we will able to look for a new job but don't need to worry about jail anymore for now! Thanks to all people who supported me in the comments and also in chat, I received dozens. Can't wait to take a new loan and buy Bitcoin. I'm joking ofc.

Calculating the value of Moon tokens using Metcalfe's Law

I have seen a few posts here with users wondering what the price of Moon tokens on this sub are worth, and while they're "technically" not worth anything, I thought it would be fun coming up with an estimate as to how much each token is roughly worth. To do this, I measured using a metric called "Metcalfe's Law". Metcalfe's Law states that the value of a network is n log(n) of the number of participants within the network. For the calculations and statistics I'm using here, I'm getting my information from bitinfocharts.com. I figured to start with measuring this metric through the number of active users on this subreddit. For these metrics, I think it is fair to take the statistics of the last week into consideration, so that there are no outliers in this data set. Since these tokens are technically on Ethereum, that means I will be using some Ethereum statistics in this to get as accurate results as possible. Now for determining the active number of users on the network, I took the top post for this entire week (which has 3,200 upvotes + 300 comments), and assumed an engagement rate of 2.5% (This is the average engagement rates of posts on social media). Using this, the number of active users in the sub can be calculated to be ~140,000. Using this figure, and entering it in the equation v = n log(n), we get a network value of ~720,500.With this value in mind, we have to multiply it by some metric, so for this figure, I decided to multiply it by the median transaction value for Ethereum (7 day SMA). Though there are no available current metrics for median transaction value, the last SMA value for median transaction value is $0.013. I chose the median transaction value because unlike Ethereum, Moons aren't used for wealth transfer or large transactions. Otherwise, I would take the average transaction value into consideration. Multiplying this, the total market cap of Moon tokens is $9,365.95. This gives each token a value of ~$0.000605 per token. Looking at these metrics, this means the user who currently earned the most moons this month earned ~$28.52.Just to show you how accurate this metric is, I'm going to compare it using the active addresses of some of the top coins, and the average transaction value (since other currencies ARE used for wealth transfer) and compare it to the real market cap of these coins:CoinMarket CapMetcalfe's Law Market CapBitcoin~$174,000,000,000~$125,850,000,000Ethereum~$25,955,000,000~$1,188,000,000Bitcoin Cash~$4,425,000,000~$3,230,000,000Bitcoin SV~$3,280,000,000~$10,560,000Litecoin~$2,860,000,000~$1,380,000,000* I think mainly the only reason there is a discrepancy for Ethereum is partly because it's not a currency intended for wealth transfer, but is more focused on creating dApps, and developing DeFi
