Transacting in Bitcoin is a joke

Tried to swap some BTC for ETH in my Blockchain wallet. After 20 min, I get an email from Blockchain wallet app that my transaction expired and I need to do it again. Funds cannot be seen in my wallet yet.Comparing this with transacting on the Ethereum network when I'm swapping instantly for various tokens, opening leveraged positions, buying insurance, sending and receiving, this is a sad joke.I'm done with BTC.

Ultra - A NFT based steam competitor backed fully by AMD

Ultra to put it simply, is not just planning to be a steam competitor but a one stop shop for all of gaming. Now before you say no one can can compete with steam, especially some small company, know this: AMD is fully backing them and is designing their processor to integrate a Crypto UOS wallet and an option to install Ultra when installing a new AMD cpu or graphics card. AMD has millions of customers and are going to push Ultra to all of them the same way windows pushes Internet ExplorerAMD has a page referencing Ultra on their website.Ubisoft and AMD employees hang around in the ultra TG, chiming in here and there. No other crypto has that sort of support.List of things Ultra is trying to accomplish:A digital Game store like Steam, and providing more ownership for your games by turning all games into an NFT that you completely own. You can transfer this game to other stores, sell it to other people, you own it completely. (NFTs are game items like fortnite skins, or weapon games or could be actual games too)An ebay for NFTs and to sell second hand digital games. (Devs get a percentage of each sale of item NFTS and Games NFTS). UOS needs to be staked to create NFTS.Integrated Esports, streaming and social media featuresAn intergrated optional miner to automatically mine whatever coin and convert to uos, all with the click of a button (everything happens in the background), also ability to watch ads for Ultra. An eco system revolving around UOS, UOS will be used as payment for everything. The user uses their debit card to buy something on ultra, its automatically converted to UOS, percentage given to devs, devs can use a percentage of sales for advertising on Ultra, another percentage to pay streamers to pay and another to send the rest to their bank account in dollars. They can have all this automated. The user will only ever see the dollar amount in their wallet, they won't know they are using UOS.Big focus on streamers, refferal systems where they get a cut of sales for advertising games or special items for their fans ( will depend on what developers want to offer). There's a whole lot more stuff but these are the basic things they are doing. The blockchain is based on EOS, but they forked it so they can control it. Instead of miners, you have block producers. The current block producers announced include: ULTRA, UBISOFT, AMD, EOS FOUNDATION, BITINFEX, will be at least 21. Reduces any collusion because the reputation of these companies is on the line. Brand integrity is very important.WHY ULTRA?-10 Million Market CapRelatively Unknown Gem, going to go all out on marketing when the beta is released in Mid Q2.Working With AMD and Ubisoft. When you get a free game when purchasing a AMD processor, they will have the option to install Ultra and redeem the game on their. The same way when you get a computer the first time and it makes you install Internet explorer. AMD is really going all out in supporting Ultra.Hired high up people who used to work at Blizzard, Former CTO of Time Warner, Gaming director of Apple and Google and a few more. Competant and ever expanding team, the blockchain is based on EOS but they have basically forked it and made their own.Beta is being used by the partners (AMD UBISOFT) and they are happy with what they see saw far. They wanted it delayed so all of the features were properly ready, and they could announce everything with a bang. Learning fron Epic stores mistakes.Beta will be released to us in Q2. Full launch Q3.Like I said this is just a brief overview there's more features I haven't mentioned, its very ambitious but the Beta is almost ready. They have been working for 3 years quietly in the background.More info can be found:In these Telegram groups:@ultra_io @ultrasecretWhen all of this comes to fruition without any hiccups, which is very likely as they have very experienced people working on this, then a 1 billion market cap is easily achievable. The gaming market is massive and Gamers love new things. NFTs will revolutionise gaming making it more consumer friendly by giving people more ownership of their digital items. It will be the first ecosystem to be properly mass adopted and will happen almost instantly due to AMD pushing it to millions of customers. 1 billion market cap is honestly a very conservative prediction, it will easily surpass Bitcoin when taking into account how much gamers spend. If all this was useful and you want to tip me here is my eth address:0x32004c8c17B0AC49075749EC3aBD4688F3c7B289Any questions let me knowOnly available on bitinfex right now, will focus on exchanges closer to launch.

What is it going to take for the average Joe To Start Using Crypto?

Crypto feels like a no brainer for me and I imagine for others in this subreddit, but the truth is, it’s far too inconvenient for the average joe. What factors do you think are keeping us from mass adoption? Personally I believe better education is needed, so people gain some familiarity and lose their fear of all things crypto, plus services that allow people to use and store cryptos in a way that is similar to the mainstream banking systems they are already used to. This and general acceptance from more vendors.

Noob interested in investing.

Hi, I have known about crypto since 10 years ago, when I began using TOR. Back then, I opened up a wallet, it gave me a portion of a Bitcoin to start with but ended up loosing it.Now I am interested in taking investing seriously. I was wondering what advice you have to start. My idea was to start with small ammounts on the 3 big coins (Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin), maybe $5 dollars a week to one of them. Is this viable or are there better ways?

Stellar Lumens XLM

I am continuing  post my "Crypto of the Day", to help to promote discussion and ideas, and also to help myself and others learn more.Clearly, no one can predict the future, and nothing here should be taken as financial advice. However, I am sure there are some valuable personal opinions out there, and there is definitely an entertainment value in reading stuff like this.Regarding the crypto of the day, Stellar Lumens XLM,  I am curious of the following...Currently selling at $0.0635.Please post if you have any financial predictions for this project for; the next month, the end of 2020, the end of 2021, the end of 2025. I know most of you avoid this part, and that is fine. It is near impossible to predict how numbers will play out within such a volatile market. What percent of your portfolio is this project currently? What should we all know, good, bad, and indifferent, about this project? It seems people are likely to post the positive in each project, but please remember that critical insight is just as useful.

*** SCAM WARNING *** evrocrypto.com

evrocrypto.comThis guy hit me up on linked in recently (leaving his name out because I'm nice) and started peddling his site that guarentees 10-30% returns on investments based on how much you put in. There is also a 10% referral bonuses if you bring in new investors. He stated the site had been operational since 2014, but I've found zero record of it anywhere on Twitter, Reddit, or Google search. The site appears to have been registered 151 days ago.I chatted with him a bit to hear him out, and he stated these returns were attainable due to all investments being backed up by a "crypto reserve". This appears to be nothing more than a pyramid scheme that's spamming up linked in.Don't get scammed.

BCH danger of hybrid POW - node fails to sync

https://ift.tt/2uplNud is the danger of using a hybrid POW consensus system. It might be surprising but BCH Core decided to finalize all blocks once their observed depth is 11. This can result in the network splitting and might cause nodes not not sync properly after an upgrade. Imagine if this happened to an economically important node and some troll miner decided to grow some obscure fork?

Came across this interview with the CEO of VectorspaceAI ($VXV) on the All Things Interesting Podcast. Thought it was worth sharing for anyone interesting

Hey everyone, this was posted over in r/LanguageTechnology a couple of days ago, and is an interview with the CEO of VectorspaceAI, Kasian Franks, from 2019.I’m not interested in blatantly shilling this project (but in the interests of transparency, I do hold some of these tokens, but I believe everyone should do their own research on any project they’re interested in), but I did find it interesting to listen to.I was surprised to find that it wasn’t posted in this sub-reddit though, from what I could find.Anyway, here’s the link (hopefully it’s right - I’m posting from mobile), and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did:https://ift.tt/3bWuFbP

Augur REP

I am continuing  post my "Crypto of the Day", to help to promote discussion and ideas, and also to help myself and others learn more.Clearly, no one can predict the future, and nothing here should be taken as financial advice. However, I am sure there are some valuable personal opinions out there, and there is definitely an entertainment value in reading stuff like this.Regarding the crypto of the day, Augur REP,  I am curious of the following...Currently selling at $13.86.Please post if you have any financial predictions for this project for; the next month, the end of 2020, the end of 2021, the end of 2025.

If I was the IOTA hacker I'd publish the stolen seeds

IOTA has stopped their network by turning off the coordinator and is creating a migration tool for people to use while the network is down to move their coins to new accounts. Right now the assumption is that the only people who have the seeds are legitimate owners and the hacker so that if there are conflicting claims with the migration tool the IOTA Foundation will process people using some kind of KYC mechanism. If I was the hacker I'd publish all the stolen seeds. If a multitude of people do a migration claim for each stolen seed that would cause complete chaos for IOTA and the claims process. What could stop someone from laying a claim to one seed and even doing KYC? There is nothing IOTA could do to resolve that properly. This is not the first time IOTA has swept user funds and forced them to go through a seed migration process. Perhaps they should learn they can't keep doing this but instead should take security seriously in the first place.

Binance Futures ADL called -Anyone else?

So, I received an email last night at 9:47, half way through the the mini-crash, saying my short position on Binance futures had been ADL called. Never heard of this before, but from reading the Binance FAQ it seems that someone (probably lots of people) on the other end of my short were liquidated when it went against them. They're bankrupt because they were over-leveraged, and i'm low on the ADL ranking, so my profit making position gets closed as well. Turns out it would have dropped another $500 and I would have made even more, but no, closed. What the hell? How does Binance even let this happen? How do I know it wont happen again, and my position 'deleveraged', seemingly just to stop me making a profit and them cover their asses? They have an insurance pot to cover things like this, but depending on your leverage and stake you're ranked. The lower the rank, more chance of getting called. I'm not the one running a billion dollar exchange, why the hell is it me that foots the risk when things go tits up for someone else?Seems that if you're going to run a futures contract, you should be prepared for this kind of thing, not just stop people out and barely apologise! Binance of ALL companies should know that crypto is volatile, that's why we trade it! Not happy.Posted this on r/Binance as well, but thought more eyes on the issue would be good. I'm interested if this happened to anyone else, and whether i'm just getting pissed off over something that happens a lot...

Isn't Ethereum more decentralized than Bitcoin?

Why is everyone referencing Bitcoin as if it's the 'most established and decentralized' cryptocurrency. I feel like all the ASIC miners made it more centralized than Ethereum. Doesn't Bitmain like hold most of the hashpower?Dont get me wrong btw, I'm holding both. But I feel like Ethereum is moving to be the most decentralized platform - especially with staking coming up soon. Am I wrong?

Could someone please try to explain me ehy is the Sec opposing the release of the TON tokens from the ico done by telegram saying it's a security ?why is it considered a security, there has been tons of ICO done over past few years, What's the difference between all the hundreds of other ico and other blockchains releasing their tokens and the TON token and the telegram ICO. An eli 5 of what constitute a security would be nice tooHopefully this message is long enough and the auto moderator bot won't feel the need and compulsion to remove my post which I hope will start a healthy conversion regarding what's going on at the moment and help people understand it better

Strategies on When to Withdraw Money, and How Much

Something Crypto and gambling may share in common, is how to stop when you are ahead.A person can tell themselves they will cash out once they reach a specific amount of money, but then it is so easy to keep letting it ride. This can be exciting, but often this leads to not cashing out as much as intended. To help to secure some profit, what are some strategies you have done that work?I feel one of the most important things to do is to cash out your initial investment when able, so then you are just playing with the house money.Perhaps some of you withdraw a certain percent every so often, or after your portfolio reaches certain benchmarks? It is difficult because on one hand, no matter how much a portfolio is worth, until you have cash in hand, you don't have it. IRS can freeze your bank accounts, wallets can get hacked, the crypto market can crash and so on. However, we are likely coming upon a strong crypto market over the next couple of years, so it is tempting to let as much ride as possible to fully capitalize on this opportunity. Nothing is for sure, though. For me, invested $10,000, and my initial plan was to cash out 10k once I hit 20k, and then let the rest ride, while withdrawing some here and there. However, it is now tempting to keep everything in for a while and keep moving to "buy low" cryptos and then flip when they bump up.I also may want to keep a specific amount in a long term crypto or two, while flipping the rest.Maybe I can develop some sort of 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 system, where 1/3 is long term leave it alone, 1/3 is flip for short term gains, and 1/3 I withdraw every so often (not sure if monthly or after every $10,000). Maybe I take this 10k and ride until I reach 21k, and then 7k long term, 7k short term, and withdraw 7k. Then when that 14k remaining returns to 21k, I do the same again?I truly look forward to reading how some of you deal with this issue to maximize profit, while also making sure you secure a profit while also balancing keeping a decent amount of money in the game.

One of most ( under the reader ) reasons why this bull market will be hyper bull market.

I hope you all remember what happened in the 2008 house market crash etc...light recession ( compare to what is coming now this was a drop in a bucket ) they didn't fix anything, all that happened before Bitcoin and crypto market, take note on that.----The next recession is at a doorstep it is happening right now but people are blind as usual in bull markets, this time it is not house market it is the good old stock market bubble that will explode at mid/end of this or next year at one point 99% sure. And this time people have Bitcoin and crypto markets.----Ok so I don't think you need to be Nostradamus to see where this is going...after the last 2 recessions, the house market collapse and stock market collapse that will happen soon, guess what is next safe heaven? crypto market BINGO! People will go hyper parabolic long on Bitcoin and any shit trash scam crypto-like degenerates they are when they don't know what are they buying, the funny thing is this is not even the start of that hyper bull market, we are going to grow next 1-2 years 10-15x easy ( whole crypto market cap ) and just about when stock markets are about to pop expect hyperbolic run of whole crypto markets in trillions.... after that for about 1 year... ofc whole crypto market will see the biggest drop in history of drops, so bois just buy crypto put your D out and feet on the desk we are golden next 2-3 years for life! this is a life-changing opportunity right now. This will be the hyper bull markets that you will tell your kids and grandchildren when 3th recession after the housing market and the stock market came with the sounds of golden F BULLS!

IOTA Trinity Wallet: Unclear if Credit Card Information was Compromised

MoonPay Statement to Customers on Credit Card Information“MoonPay, as a partner of Trinity Wallet, has been working with the IOTA Foundation and third-party experts to assist with the ongoing investigation. At this time, as the payment processor of the Trinity Wallet, we want to inform users who have input their credit card details into the Trinity Wallet that, to the best of our knowledge, their credit card information is unlikely to have been compromised by this security incident. Credit card details are encrypted and processed in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. However, until the investigation has been completed, we would like to ask users who purchased Miota using the Trinity Wallet to monitor their statements and report any suspicious activity they observe to their banks immediately.”The official response from the IOTA Foundation on stolen credit card information is the following:We have received requests from several users to provide information as to whether any Trinity users’ credit card information might have been compromised in connection with this security incident. Moonpay provides payment processing as a function of its own platform, which is independent of Trinity. For now, we can only share with the community the below statement from Moonpay on this matter. Please note that the IOTA Foundation is not in a position to independently verify the accuracy of the statement, due to the fact that the evidence to support it is not in our possession. Please be sure to keep an eye on your statements if you used MoonPay to purchase MIOTA within the Trinity wallet.ALL TRINITY USERS WHO OPENED TRINITY BETWEEN 17 DECEMBER 2019 AND 18 FEBRUARY 2020 WILL NEED TO USE THE SEED MIGRATION TOOL IN ORDER TO PROTECT THEIR TOKENS*.*As always, you can find the status updates on this issue at: https://ift.tt/2OPbK8E

KaratGold worries

I close relative was telling me over the weekend about their buying into KaratGold - a supposedly gold-backed cryptocurrency based out of Germany.I few things he said caused alarm bells to start ringing in my head. It was sold to him my a friend in what sounds like an MLM style system. Coins are sold through different tiers of 'packages' from Bronze to VIP level. And when he contacted his friend to see about getting his money out he was told he was already thousands up on the deal and shoud have faith. All of that seems to stink of the OneCoin style scam.I quick google search has thrown up nothing good - they're being investigated in several countries and have been banned in several others, but apart from that information seems to be sparse. I also can't find their token being traded anywhere except an exchange run by them.Has anyone had dealings with or know anything more about KaratGold? How worried should I be for my family member?

IOTA Trinity wallet hack - status update

A short update about the current situation. As a reminder, ALL TRINITY USERS WHO OPENED TRINITY BETWEEN 17 DECEMBER 2019 AND 18 FEBRUARY 2020 WILL NEED TO USE THE SEED MIGRATION TOOL IN ORDER TO PROTECT THEIR TOKENS. We are still working on building and testing the seed migration tool. We will inform you here as soon as it is ready.Last night we released an updated mobile wallet for both iOS and Android. Please visit the App Store or Play Store respectively to download it or update your current version. While, as of now, we have no indication that mobile users were affected by the attack, out of an abundance of caution, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT EVEN MOBILE WALLET USERS CHANGE THEIR PASSWORD AND USE THE SEED MIGRATION TOOL AS SOON AS IT’S AVAILABLE.Trinity users who have already updated their wallets will have noticed the removal of MoonPay services from the updated versions of the wallet. This was necessary because the security vulnerability was introduced into the Trinity wallet via the MoonPay integration. We are working on an incident report in which we will publicly disclose the details of the vulnerability, how it was introduced, how it was exploited, and the steps we are taking to improve our security practices as a whole. We have received requests from several users to provide information as to whether any Trinity users’ credit card information might have been compromised in connection with this security incident. Moonpay provides payment processing as a function of its own platform, which is independent of Trinity. For now, we can only share with the community the below statement from Moonpay on this matter. Please note that the IOTA Foundation is not in a position to independently verify the accuracy of the statement, due to the fact that the evidence to support it is not in our possession.MoonPay Statement to Customers on Credit Card Information “MoonPay, as a partner of Trinity Wallet, has been working with the IOTA Foundation and third-party experts to assist with the ongoing investigation. However, until the investigation has been completed, we would like to ask users who purchased Miota using the Trinity Wallet to monitor their statements and report any suspicious activity they observe to their banks immediately.”We are constantly in contact with law enforcement in several countries and are working closely with them to ensure fast and thorough investigations. If you’re an affected user, we would greatly appreciate it if you could please file a report with your local police, as this will help us with the criminal investigations. In most countries you can quickly file a report online. We recommend that you include in your report the following German case file number so that the authorities in your country can quickly get in touch with the other authorities already working on the investigation elsewhere:Germany, Center for Cybercrime, Case Number: 200213-1717-i00290We are still refining the remediation plan in light of continuously updated information and will provide further details as soon as we can.Thank you all for your patience. Verge Currency is still susceptible to the 2018 bitcoin inflation bug (still a Top 100 crypto)

Hey cryptocurrency enthusiasts, after a short break I found time again to dig some cryptocurrencies I follow (in the case of Verge not hold of course ;) ). The last time I took a look at Verge I found the miner exploiting their X17 algorithm difficulty. The lead dev chimed in and downplayed it, because there were not more coins generated than intended. This time this is different. If you remember 2018 there were news about a "bitcoin breaking bug" that was discovered and fixed before exploitation: LinkLong story short: a bug that lets you generate more coins than intended, a so called inflation bug, is one of the worse things that could happen to a cryptocurrency.Verge already was exploited several times, millions of $ worth of Verge were mined faster than intended. This still didn't affect the total emission, it "just" was faster.I do not want to go to much into technical details to keep it simple. Currently you can spent UTXOs more than once if you include them into one transaction, meaning you can generate usable outputs/Vergecurrency out of thin air. All you need to do is to mine the transaction yourself. The fix by the Bitcoin devs simply hasn't been applied to the Verge codebase. In over 18 months. For a 70.000.000$ market cap cryptocurrency.I know this info should be enough for an attacker to execute the exploit, but honestly I have warned about Verge quite often. So I did not choose to make a disclosure to the devs and let them get away with it.People need to be aware Verge is a ticking timebomb because the devs are absolute amateurs playing with users money. But also exchanges need to react to this kind of behaviour and simply delist them.-------------------If you like my Blockchain observations feel free to tip a beer:XMR: 49F7nLH6XcS8Nk3g8Y7NxtKqGw4nkKCuyamQK31owMFbF6xB8PD3PhWQYkfnq9wbi4AYYBoEYc1VXTYRQXgxVXKAJ5oMWnV BCH: bitcoincash:qrmdnsugew5zcuc7ygdxgkwyjf82x2kkfsa6thpj42

Basic Attention Token BAT

I plan to post about a different crypto daily for a while to help to promote discussion and ideas, and also to help myself and others learn more.Clearly, no one can predict the future, and nothing here should be taken as financial advice. However, I am sure there are some valuable personal opinions out there, and there is definitely an entertainment value in reading stuff like this.Regarding the crypto of the day, Basic Attention Token, I am curious of the following...Currently at $0.28 after a significant market drop recently, and this past week topped out at $0.3202.What do you predict over the next month? What do you predict for the end of 2020? 2021? 2025?Anyone here suggest investing 50%+ into this project? Or is this in at least your top five or top ten crypto? What should we all know, good and bad, about this project?Unless anything drastic happens to this project, or the crypto market in general, what is likely the floor? It seems people are likely to post the positive in each project, but please remember that critical insight is just as useful.

How to assign custom flair via InstaMod

Hey there /r/CryptoCurrency! I'm the developer of the bot /u/InstaMod which is responsible for the automatic flair on this subreddit. You can read more about how InstaMod works on this subreddit here, but today I'm here to talk about assigning custom flair. If you are in the top 10% of contributors on this subreddit, then you have the ability to overwrite your automatic flair assign a custom one. Users who achieve this status are notified via a PM from /u/InstaMod with instructions on how to go about applying that flair. However, recently there was a bug which resulted in users not being able to assign flair, so I'd like to give everyone a refresher on how to correctly go about this process now that it's been resolved. This link is a pre-formatted PM message which will allow you to assign custom flair. Simply fill out the flair and CSS sections (or leave them blank) and the bot will promptly respond with a confirmation that your flair was updated. If you do not have the permissions to apply custom flair then the bot will reply informing you of that. Here is a list of the current CSS options available:Bitcoin, BitcoinShares, Bitcoin Cash fan, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Monero, Dash, NEM, ETC, Ripple, Factom, NEO, OMG, ARK, SIA, Peercoin, Nxt, Namecoin, Waves, Iota, ZCASH, Altcoiner, Developer, Miner, Trader, Investor, Observer, Student, Entrepreneur, Analyst, Moon, Gentleman, FanIf you have any questions, suggestions, or issues feel free to let me know in the comments. There are some additional features that I hope to add into InstaMod in the near future so stay tuned!

I bought $1000 worth of the Top Ten Cryptos on January 1st, 20120 (Jan 2020 Update)

2020 \"Index Fund\" EXPERIMENT - Tracking Top 10 Cryptocurrencies of 2019 - Jan 2020 Update - Up 55%Full blog post with all the tablestl;dr - 2020 group off to a strong start, up +55% in January, but trail the 2019 Top Ten, which are up +63%. BSV crushes the competition in January. Focusing on the 2020 Top Ten cryptos paid off in January, a rarity for these experiments. Not a reader? This dude made a video of the findings. The Experiment:Instead of hypothetically tracking cryptos, I made an actual $1000 investment, $100 in each of the Top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap on the 1st of January 2018. The result? The 2018 Top Ten portfolio ended the year down 85%, my $1000 worth only $150.  I then repeated the experiment on the 1st of January 2019 with the new 2019 Top Ten cryptos, then again in 2020.Think of the Top Ten Experiments as a lazy man’s Index Fund (no weighting or rebalancing), less technical, but hopefully still a proxy for the market as a whole – or at the very least an interesting snapshot of the 2018, 2019, and 2020 crypto space.I am trying to keep this project simple and accessible for beginners and those looking to get into crypto but maybe not quite ready to jump in yet. I try not to take sides or analyze, but rather attempt to report in a detached manner letting the numbers speak for themselves. This is not investing advice – as a matter of fact, the vast majority of the reports will show that the Top Ten approach under performs other strategies. This is experiment is designed to be documentary in nature, describing a specific period in cryptocurrency history.Month Thirteen – UP 55%If you’re just finding the experiment now, welcome. You have some catching up to do. Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.On the 1st of January, 2018, I bought $100 each of the Top Ten cryptos at the time for a total investment of $1000 to see how they would perform over the year. I tracked the experiment and reported each month. I then extended the 2018 experiment repeated the process with the new 2019 Top Ten group of cryptos. How is it going? After two years the 2018 Top Ten were down -86%.After one year the 2019 Top Ten broke just about even (up +2%).I decided to keep things going in 2020, so I repeated the experiment yet again. The round three coins are:Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Tether, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, EOS, Binance Coin, Bitcoin SV, and Tezos are the coins I’ll be tracking as part of the 2020 Top Ten Crypto Index Fund Experiment.Let’s get into it. Here’s the 2020 Top Ten Crypto Experiment update for January.Month One – UP 55%Well there’s something you don’t see everyday. Or at least I don’t after twenty five months of running these experiments: an all green month. Great start for the 2020 batch and by far the strongest January since the Top Ten experiments started in 2018.Ranking and January Winners and LosersExcept for the top three (BTC, ETH, and XRP), there was a ton of movement in January, most of it downward. Tezos crashed hard, down from #10 to #15 and becomes the first to drop out of the Top Ten. Tether dropped two places, always a good sign for the rest of the group. BSV gained the most ground advancing four spots in the rankings.January Winners – BSV dominated the field finishing January up +181%. Bitcoin Cash finished a distant second place gaining +78%.January Losers – Tether, which is always great news for the rest of the pack. XRP finished in second place “only” up +25%.For those keeping score, I keep a tally of which coins have the most monthly wins and losses:Overall update – BSV takes strong early lead. Tether is the worst performer. It was hard for the rest of the cryptos to keep up with BSV this month, up +181% in January. That’s more than double what second place Bitcoin Cash gained this month. BSV is already worth $280.Tether started 2020 in the basement as the rest of the field gained at least +25%.Total Market Cap for the entire cryptocurrency sector:The crypto market gained over $67B in January 2020, up +36% since New Year’s Day.Bitcoin dominance:Bitcoin dominance dipped a few percentage points to 66% during the first month of 2020, a sign of increasing interest in altcoins.Overall return on investment since January 1st, 2020:The 2020 Top Ten Portfolio gained about $549 in January 2020. After an initial $1000 investment, the 2020 Top Ten Portfolio is worth $1,549. That’s up about +55%. There’s not much here at the moment, but we’ll be looking at the entire experiment, month by month in an attempt to keep some perspective:How does the 2020 Top Ten Experiment compare to the parallel projects?2018 Top Ten Experiment: down about -80% ($202)2019 Top Ten Experiment: up about +63% ($1,631)Taken together, here’s the bottom bottom bottom line: After a $3000 investment in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Top Ten Cryptocurrencies, my portfolios are worth $3,382.That’s up about 12.7%.Implications/Observations:The crypto market as a whole is up about +36% in January compared to the 2020 Top Ten cryptos which have gained +55%. Sticking with the Top Ten coins beat the overall market in January.Although there are a few examples of this strategy working with the 2019 Top Ten, it’s interesting to note that this hasn’t yet happened with the 2018 group as at no point in the first twenty-five months of the Top Ten 2018 Experiment has the approach of focusing on only the Top Ten cryptos outperformed the overall market.I’m also tracking the S&P 500 as part of my experiment to have a comparison point with other popular investments options. The S&P 500 was flat in January. The initial $1k investment I put into crypto would now be worth $1000 had it been redirected to the S&P 500.But what if I took the same world’s-slowest-dollar-cost-averaging/$1,000-per-year-in-January approach with the S&P 500? It would yield the following:$1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2018: +$210$1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2019: +$290$1000 investment in S&P 500 on January 1st, 2020: +$0Taken together, here’s the bottom bottom bottom line:After three $1,000 investments into an S&P 500 index fund in January 2018, 2019, and 2020, my portfolio would be worth $3,500.That’s up about +17% (compared to +12.7% with the Top Ten Crypto Experiments). Conclusion:A nice start to the year for the 2020 Top Ten and the best January since I started updates in 2018. It’s also a nice to be modestly up on the combined 2018, 2019, and 2020 portfolios for a change. Thanks for reading and for supporting the experiment. I hope you’ve found it helpful. I continue to be committed to seeing this process through and reporting along the way. Feel free to reach out with any questions and stay tuned for progress reports. Keep an eye out for the original 2018 Top Ten Crypto Index Fund Experiment and the 2019 Top Ten Experiment follow up experiment.

[Request] Long story short, what happened with Dragonchain?

Hi,I invested in alts back at the end of 2017 and have been holding some bags since then. One of my biggest bags was (and still is) Dragonchain. It was promising, but I see the price has never recovered and has only gone down. Were there any big news that I miss? I haven't been paying a lot of attention to the crypto world to be honest. What is the general consensus right now on this coin? Thanks

I had a lapse in judgement and got scammed.

Hi so this post is fye and for me to vent about my own stupidity. So about an hour ago I was scammed by a YouTube livestream. Correction: I scammed myself because of a YouTube livestream.I was browsing my home page on YouTube when I come across an ‘Ethereum Foundation’ livestream advertising a 100,000 ETH giveaway. I click on it and it has a couple thousand viewers and the channel has around 60k subs. I check the description and there’s a link with the giveaway instructions ‘signed’ by Vitalik Buterin. My stupid ass looks at this and says ‘this looks legit, 3 eth for 15 eth in return, and if there’s none left you get your eth back! No downsides!!’Well after I sent the 3 eth, I look through the channel uploads and it’s just some dude in Africa. I’m mad at myself for falling for such a dumb gimmick (I’ve been in the crypto space since October) and I’m really just writing this to get my frustration out. I know it’s not a terribly huge amount of money lost, but it still hurts that I could’ve been so stupid for those 5 min.I know most of the people here already know about these scams, but I guess if someone hasn’t and they read this, it might save them some money (and shame) in the future.I hope this gave you a laugh and I look forward to all the comments telling me I’m an idiot. :)

I legitimately, actually believe Crypto will make lots of people here, active in this sub right now, millionaires (and I think it's fairly obvious).

I'm just looking at all the factors:Crypto trade volume is growing - It's like 300-400% higher than during the "Big Bull Run" of 2017.It's getting easier to buy and trade crypto everyday. And the user interfaces are becoming more and more normie-friendly.Libra is coming. Which is, if nothing else, a SHIT TON of press for crypto. (Who's to say Google or Amazon won't enter the market as well?) Awareness of crypto will just continue to swell...The 10+ year bull run in the traditional stock market won't last forever (and may end soon). Remember: Crypto has accomplished everything it has even while competing with relatively safe and easy returns on Wall St. Just wait til the stock market stalls and/shrink and we get real institutional investors.People are CRAVING high return, high speculation, tech savvy, investments. Look at Tesla over the last 6 months.Boomers are retiring and dying off. Millennials are entering the investment world. The BTC halving is in May.Not every coin will moon, obviously. But even the newest newb on this sub right now is still an early adopter with a chance at 100X-1000X gains if they buy, HODL, and see where this goes.Crypto is risky as fuck. But show me another investment like it—show me another investment with potential returns like this with factors that make sense to me like the ones above.

Monero is the real digital Gold, not Bitcoin

Monero can do everything that Bitcoin can do but it has completely private transactions and no way to know who holds what. No other significant crypto does that. The other advantage that Monero has is that its devs and community are open minded to trying out new ways to scale it. The Bitcoin devs decided to go the LN route and Blockstream sidechains and closed off other routes.Bitcoin is terrible as digital Gold.

Attempt at an unbiased summary of the IOTA attack by a non-bag holder

On February 12th the IOTA Foundation (IF) posted a status update:February 12th 2020 - 08:55After receiving several reports of fund theft that looked out of the ordinary in a short timeframe we decided to warn about this in Discord and on Twitter. As a precaution we ask you to keep your Trinity wallet closed for now.25 minutes later they decide to shut down the "coordinator", blocking all "value" transactions.February 12th 2020 - 09:20After initial investigation we decided to turn off the Coordinator to make sure no further theft can occur until we find out the root cause of these thefts. Further investigation taking place from here on.They then spend 5 days investigating the theft. After about 24 hours, only about 10 people reported that they had been stolen from/were identified.February 13th 2020 - 07:45We've shifted the complete focus of all relevant resources of the IOTA Foundation to this investigation last night and we have been working in teams to investigate impact and cause together with the identified victims. The conclusions so far are:- Most evidence is pointing towards seed theft, cause still unknown and under investigation- Victims (around 10 that identified with the IOTA Foundation so far) all seem to have recently used TrinityHowever, it seems by examining at the transactions that they knew were associated with the theft and were able to identify some new thefts.February 14th 2020 - 05:45...The investigation has yielded absolutely no indication that there has been a core protocol breach of any kind. Rather, all evidence so far points to a problem with a dependency of the Trinity wallet. The attack pattern analysis showed that the halt of the coordinator interrupted the attacker's attempts to liquidate funds on exchanges. The stolen funds have been purposely and repeatedly merged and split to obfuscate the investigation, and with the current token exchange rate as well as exchanges' KYC limits in mind. We received additional feedback from more exchanges (not all yet), confirming that none of the identified transactions has been received or liquidated. Our current assumption is that the perpetrator targeted high value accounts first, before moving on to smaller accounts and then being interrupted early by the halt of the coordinator. (Again: Hardware wallet users are not affected.)To me, the details sound like the perpetrator was experienced and knew how to convert the tokens to a less-centralized cryptocurency without KYC/AML. It wasn't simply a crime of opportunity, but rather there was some planning. There was a lot of speculation over whether or not the hacker was "sophisticated". Of course, he did manage to pwn IOTA's official wallet. However, the "Chairman of the Board" of IOTA wrote "Let's just say theres a lot of traces. The attacker does not seem to have been too sophisticated", on discord. linkOn February 16th, IF released a new version of their wallet.Trinity Desktop 1.4.1 is out....- Update: Remove exchange support (#2565)- Update: Adjust update alerts and disable auto update (#2566)- Fix: Allow wallet entry when nodes are not in sync (#2563)- Update: New Crowdin translations (#2553) - Fix: Endless loading cycle (#2568)Two interesting changes are they removed exchange support and they disabled auto updates. IF had recently integrated "Moonpay"in their wallet, which allows users to buy IOTA with their credit cards for a 4.5% fee. Moonpay appears to be affiliated with Roger Ver and Bitcoin.com but I didn't look into this too much. Purely speculation, but it seems that Moonpay may be involved in the key theft.Quite a few users in Discord were reporting that they had trouble with the new version.About 12 hours later they released a new desktop version (1.4.2) with- Fix: Incorrect alert on password change for some users (#2570)Fast forward to today, IF released their remediation plan.Basically, if you used their official wallet since December 17th, 2019 then your seed might be compromised. However, they say that the attack didn't really start until January 25th, so the Dec 17th date is out of an abundance of caution. Here's the IF remediation plan from status.iota.org:February 17th 2020 - 05:47Here is a short overview of the attack remediation plan and the next steps going forward. Essentially the remediation plan involves three steps:STEP 1: INSTALL UPDATED VERSION OF TRINITYAs announced yesterday, we have released an updated version of Trinity which allows you to check your balance and transactions. Please download this newest version of Trinity here and install it over your old version: https://ift.tt/2P3tFbQ you download the new version, MAKE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD AND STORE IT IN A PASSWORD MANAGER. If you have used the same password also for other services or websites, we strongly recommend you change it there, too, as a precaution.By upgrading to this new version of Trinity, you will remove the vulnerability from your wallet and render the hacker incapable of accessing your wallet if s/he has not already done so.STEP 2: MIGRATE YOUR TOKENS TO SAFE SEEDSIn the upcoming days, we will release a seed migration tool that will allow users to transfer their tokens to a safe seed. We strongly recommend that ALL users who have opened any version of Trinity (Desktop or Mobile) since the 17th of December 2019 utilize the tool and migrate their tokens to a new, safe seed during the soon-to-be-announced migration period BEFORE the coordinator is re-started. More information on the tool and how to use it will be provided when the tool is published.By migrating your tokens to new, safe seeds prior to the re-start of the coordinator, you will render the attacker incapable of making unauthorized transfers of your tokens if s/he has not already done so.*Note: our current information indicates that the hack started on or around 25 January 2020 and that only Trinity Desktop users’ seeds were potentially compromised. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are nevertheless recommending that ALL users (not only desktop users) who are concerned about possible token loss should migrate their tokens to a new seed.*Note: Ledger Nano users do not need to use the migration tool but a password change is still strongly recommended.STEP 3: RECLAIM YOUR STOLEN TOKENS IF NECESSARYOur current information indicates that only a limited number of bundles were successfully transferred by the attacker out of the true owners’ wallets. We have notified all exchanges of all compromised bundles we are aware of so as to prevent any further movement of any stolen tokens. We therefore anticipate that in the majority of cases, Steps 1 and 2 will be sufficient to protect most users’ tokens. To address the minority of cases in which unauthorized token transfers were made out of users’ wallets, a third step is needed. We will perform a global snapshot of the network that will, pending community validation, enable us to bring stolen tokens back to the affected users. More information on the process as well as the consequences for all affected users will be provided soon.Assuming the snapshot is successfully validated by the IOTA community (node operators), we will implement a KYC procedure involving a third party that will enable all users who had their tokens stolen to reclaim them. The same procedure will also be required for certain cases in which the migration tool is used fraudulently or incorrectly. More information on this process will follow shortly. After the migration process, we will restart the coordinator and resume normal operations on the network. An update on the timeline will be released in the upcoming days.We will publish detailed instructions on the steps users should take as soon as the remediation tools and processes are ready. For now, please make sure to download the new Trinity version to change your password and check your balance. We would also like to ask any affected users from the United States to come forward and DM our team, as your cooperation could assist us with ongoing law enforcement investigations.Thank you all for your patience. We will continue to update you on all important steps along the way and will do our best to make the transition as easy and smooth as possible. So yea, if you got your tokens stolen, they will return them to you after you submit KYC/AML to the IOTA Foundation, assuming that "node operators" agree to roll back the theft.Hopefully users didn't reuse the same seed for another cryptocurrency because they won't be able to roll those back.It sounds like they're working with the FBI (or US law enforcement) on this which is a bit surprising. I'm skeptical that they have really identified the perpetrator -- a common attack is to steal developer Github credentials which could be what happened here. But again, that's purely speculation. Please don't repost this on your for-profit crypto news site without attributing to me ;)edit: formatting

I either see people ignore Ardor/NXT or call it a scam, why? Its been around for years, with a feature rich, stable mainnet, the first to have a multichain platform, lightweight smart contracts, and one of the first to have full nodes for android that you can stake on. What's the issue? Not enough marketing and hype? Am I missing a giant flaw? Just not enough users to prove its value?thank you

What is the actual deal with Bitcoin (BTC) ?

I’m really trying to figure out what is actually going on with Bitcoin and why there are so many people who believe in a project that has done so little in 5 years. For a project that is supposedly trying to be a currency and to make everything perfect, how come they can’t even agree to block size and have no plan on how to achieve world wide use? Why does it take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour for me to buy something? There are literally projects in the low million market cap range that have faster blockchains and can be used as currency. What am I actually missing here? How come we never get to hear from any of the decision makers or developers. It’s literally always strangers talking about the same things over and over. It’s like a cult following and I personally do not have a good feeling about this sheep mentality or people telling me to buy it with nothing to back it up other than how "its going to go up"I was a BTC holder since the dawn of time but I literally sold yesterday and I’m wondering other people’s thoughts on the project. I think it will still pump, not because of innovation but in the same way that Doge will pump.

Question: For the earlier folks that were here during past bull markets (prior to the 2017 market) were people still talking about the "Next bull run!" before 2017, or had hype died off?

Title has the question. I guess I'm a permabear now, but we haven't stopped talking about the "next bull run" since the crash. I don't have a metric for anything, but it seems like the more folks talk about something in crypto the less likely the chance of it happening is.

Honest question

Why do so many people dig in behind their favorite crypto like its a sports team?I mean, sure, I have my favorites as well but I don’t waste time trying to convince others that they’re buying “shitcoins” if they don’t buy my favorite coin/token.IMHO this fanboy mentality really needs to go, it will only turn people against each other and continue to hurt this space.Good luck everyone!

Privacy coins are legal. Mixing/laundering services are not.

I see a lot of people complaining about the hammer coming down on mixing services. By using a mixing service, you're asking for trouble. It's a money laundering service, and a good deal of the coins mixed are from ill-gotten gains. You're using a service that takes your (probably legal) coins, and trades them for coins with a dirty history. You're gaining some privacy by helping someone else launder their money- or you're laundering your own money directly.Either way, you're incredibly likely to end up with some tainted coins.Privacy coins are not illegal, and won't make you complicit when it comes to helping others launder their money. Stop using mixing services, and support privacy coins instead.
