The EOS DeFi ecosystem

https://ift.tt/38YDYp4 is a core aspect of the EOS ecosystem, with REX and Equilibrium collectively locking up a far greater portion of EOS than the portion of ETH locked by all Ethereum DeFi Dapps. However, the EOS DeFi ecosystem is still premature as only 2 platforms dominate it entirely and overvaluation runs far. In fact, while Maker's MKR token is valued at less than 1x the worth of the ETH it locks, Equilibrium's NUT token is valued at 10x the worth of EOS it locks.More DeFi Insights

bitcoin cash machine problem

I put some money into a bitcoin cash machine the other day (in the UK) and at the point of purchase it errored and told me to call a support number, but also said that I would get my BTC via a manual transfer soon. The support line were initially friendly and said they were having issues with their exchange, but they'd now been resolved and I'd have my BTC soon. The next day, no BTC and the support lines (phone and email) had all gone silent. This was about 50 hours ago.Is this sort of issue normal? Should I just wait or should I try to escalate?

Brand new, need help

Hey everyone, I'm kind of brand new to this. Although I have been tangentially aware of crypto since you could buy a pizza with multiple bitcoins, I'm new to investing/trading. I've been looking at investing in XRP, Ethereum, and Stellar. My question is...how? I downloaded coinbase to track prices but I don't think I want to use that to invest. Also what the fuck happened on June 25th 2019 that a bunch of crypto jumped super high in value? Thanks for any help.

Revolut lets you 'buy cryptocurrency' - but if you can't take it out of the app, do you really own it?

So, around 6/7 months ago I started buying crypto using Revolut, which I'd been using for a while. I got to a decent little sum of BTC and ETH before coming around to the importance of owning my private keys (I was just speculating on price before, now I'm way more into the tech).I'm looking for a way to withdraw my crypto in the app only to find this is not possible - what the hell?!Now I make a point of utilising non-custodial banking apps like Plutus for fiat -> crypto. Crypto swaps, I use something like Uniswap - this way my funds go straight to me.End rant.

A community Q&A thread for helping non technically inclined crypto enthusiasts understand blockchain better!

I feel like there's a lot to take in when it comes to crypto, especially new-comers to blockchain/crypto, who seemingly have to add a new word to their vocabulary every other day.I figured I'd start a thread where we could all post questions of which the answer's maybe aren't on google and hope that some smart people feel kind enough to educate us.Being the OP I suppose I'll start: Wtf is a ygrasil protocol?

Does anybody use crypto in daily life without an intermediary like a debit card?

:-) As per the title, I'm just curious if people in this sub are using crypto for straight transfers rather than using a crypto debit card. I'm using a card for almost every daily purchase, but ideally the endgame should be not having to rely on a company to use your money! I know some shops around the world are starting to accept it (eg. the big ones in Japan, IGA in Australia) but I'm not sure that it's that popular.Whenever I think it's socially acceptable I do the whole 'Do you accept crypto?' thing, but I'm quite disheartened by the slow uptake.

What's the point of getting into crypto for the purpose of trading?

am asking because for all I can see not a lot of coins actually gain value in the long run. If anything they seem to slowly bleed out and the spikes in prices seem to be artificial to get newbies to buy into the heat of the moment at absurd prices, only to sell them back at the end of the day with +20% loss (stop loss hunting). I could be missing something, hence why I am asking the question.

Tron Mobile official 20,000 TRX launch

Tron Mobile wrapped up its beta on the 21st. Since then I've been working tirelessly to release this to the public. The app has paid out over 30k TRX in it's month long beta. This is an investment free app that will earn you TRX.How it works: It is fully ad supported, users simply have to log in, play some free games and collect their TRX. The pool is loaded with the ad revenue and users collect shares from checking in, watching video ads, and playing games. These shares give you a share of the ad revenue paid once monthly. The pool grows as more users play games as losses feed the pool and the lottery system. The games offer trx prizes for instant TRX.Updates since beta:New chance based game where you bet TRX for a chance to possibly double it.Smaller ads for better UI on certain screens.Lotto system, every 7 daily logins rewards you with 1 lotto ticket, there will be 3 winners per month who split the pot which starts at 5000 trx. Losing the games will fund the lotto pot so it will grow all month until the draw. The jackpot on the number game rewards 1 lotto ticket now as well.Pool is now fed by both ad rev, and people playing games as losses are added to the pool. The pool will be huge by end of each month.Things that are coming:Referral system, PvP games where users stake TRX and the winner takes all.https://ift.tt/37B22OV of payments: https://ift.tt/2GzbHcV app is still being actively developed, please give me feedback and report bugs. You may be rewarded for doing so. I can reduce ads, make ads smaller. Whatever the community wants. Thanks, and have fun

TaxACT charging more if you click that you used crypto- doesn't have any additional steps or questions about it.

So, filing my taxes, during the final review it asked if I bought, traded, or received any crypto. I checked yes. Next step tells me that based on my answers, I need to pay for the deluxe version ($75 between federal and state)- I agree to pay this, because I don't want to turn around and lie on my tax return. I didn't have any income from crypto, but that wasn't the question that was asked. So, once I pay for deluxe, it does the review check again, and, doesn't ask for any other info. Just moves forward into the filing process. They tried to upsell me audit protection after selling me deluxe, so deluxe didn't buy me any extra protections...They literally just charged me more because I admitted to trading crypto, and did absolutely nothing to ensure that I filed the crypto side of things correctly.

Can't claim reward. Deleted Brave Browser for good today.

After I kept on having problems with the reward system I turned to the Brave sub for help. They have a active support there, so why not. But the Brave support dosnt seem to be interested in helping or are clueless about the problem at hand. There where some gentil folks from the community that tried to help but didn't have the insights needed.I wasn't able to claim my rewards for 4 month now and I could only guess how much BAT that was. I was getting frustrated more and more. First with the browser then with the nonexisting user support. I mean sure.... Let me watch all those adds and let you have all the money. No reason to get mad on my end, right?I was hoping some day I could claim the rewards, that's why I held off from doing anything like to reinstall the browser, because funds would get lost. I was hoping to get some advice from the support. But after I have turned several times to the support and have not gotten any answer I was done today. If anyone else is having this kind of issues: stop using Brave if you are doing it for the rewards. You will not be able to claim them. You will not get help from the company. Stop giving them free money!Edit: What a shitshow of a thread. Way to go Brave/BAT community!

Nano PvP: Real-time cryptocurrency coin flipping

Tl;dr: Real-time heads-vs-tails game with Nano :)Cross-post from /r/nanocurrency:Hey guys, I just finished creating https://ift.tt/2urzaJT as a cool side project. It's a site where you can wager any amount of Nano against another player in a coinflip. Whatever side the coin lands on, the winner takes all. Currently, it is in beta testing and has a 0% fee. It has a provably fair system with instant deposits and withdrawals. I would really appreciate it if you guys could take a look and leave feedback about the site.We use the seedrandom javascript package that takes in a seed, and returns a value from 0 to 1. When each game is created, a hash(public) is generated. Once a player joins, a salt is generated (private) and the hash+salt are used as the seed. After each game, the salt is revealed where users can verify the outcome of the game at the url format https://ift.tt/38zfGBZ multiple people try to join a game, the person whose tx went through will join the game. Here's a demo video:https://youtu.be/hj4K9EiT8l4It's hard for me not to get excited about real-time cryptocurrency microtransactions like this hahaha. Crypto Full of Scammers? I've Been Scammed More in Precious Metals

People talk about how the bitcoin/cryptocurrency space is rife with scammers. I realized today I've been scammed more in precious metals transactions. Today I tried to sell 3 gold coins to a local shop. They tested them and told me they weren't pure gold and couldn't offer much. That was weird, because I try to be really careful where I'm buying, and I've kept all my receipts. I went home, checked receipts from when these were purchased 3.5 years ago. And where did I get those 3 gold coins? The same shop that was now telling me they were bogus.I brought the receipt and coins back to shop and confronted the owner with evidence. He said it's basically my word against his, that despite the receipt, I could have swapped the coins. Which I guess is true, a person could have done that, but certainly I didn't plan a petty heist over three years ago.The compromise we struck is that he'd pay me the value I paid for the coins 3.5 yrs ago. That's higher than what he'd otherwise pay for impure gold, but much less than what I'd get were the coins pure/real, as I believed when I bought from him 3.5 yrs ago.I've also made some dumb mistakes buying on eBay and getting bogus silver. But how often have I bought faulty bitcoin? Never. How about imposter bitcoin? Nope.Anything Peter Schiff complains about with crypto is at least as true with precious metals. Likely more so.

BCH 'dev team' skimming 12,5% mining fees is like a continuous pre-mine

Obviously the idea is that miners decide democratically and miners being 'unionized' into 4 pools having 80% of hash rate can indeed decide on a way forward but still it has a nasty after taste.People through politics and centralization can structurally skim money from a cryptocurrency in a way that wasn't foreseen in the whitepaper seems a bad development.BTC apparently is less centralized than BCH but isn't the mere fact that hoolahoops like these are possible bad for BTC as well ?Nobody can look into the future, what if BTC ends up with 4 pools holding 80% of hash and they decide to take 50% for 'development and marketing costs' ?You need to trust this won't happen, but wasn't trustlesness the whole point to start with ?

CoinMarketCap announces a new metric "Liquidity" to combat fake volume

CoinMarketCap just release a blog post announcing that they have listed a new metric on their website. They call this metric "Liquidity".The Liquidity metric by CoinMarketCap is designed to eventually replace volume as the default metric when ranking market pairs and exchanges.Liquidity refers to the ease of being able to trade in and out of an asset, or in this case cryptocurrencies. The Liquidity metric by CoinMarketCap takes into account a wider range of key variables from the order book, such as the distance of the order from the mid-price, the size of the order and the relative liquidity of the asset in question. We refrain from using a static percentage depth to calculate Liquidity, [...]The adaptive methodology will make the Liquidity metric very difficult to “game”You can see the Liquidity metric on CoinMarketCap's site now, when you view the exchanges for an asset.https://preview.redd.it/n9bhcz1mafc41.png?width=954&format=png&auto=webp&s=2147a52892efc1a1233aee06fbcab583f40cbc04Everyone knows that exchanges fake their volume numbers so they can appear at the top of this list. The new Liquidity metric is supposed to solve this problem. When filtering by the Liquidity, you should see a list of the actual most popular exchanges.https://ift.tt/2TQRrLs, it seems this metric is still somewhat flawed. Even when filtering by "Liquidity", the list of exchanges is now what you would expect. Some of the most popular exchanges such as Binance are not even listed. Surely Binance has more liquidity than many of the exchanges listed here, and fake exchanges such as ZB.COM is listed as the 4th most liquid exchange. Has anybody every even used this exchange before? What do you guys think of this new metric?

After years of talking about red flags on the CryptoBasic Podcast, we decided to make it official and have a format where we strictly cover the red flags of a project. We break down each red flag, why it's bad, and what excuses there could be for it to not be a red flag, and then give our opinion of the aggregate of the red flags we've seen.We covered the Coss.io situation in this first episode with this new format, and we focused heavily on some of the mod drama that was put front and center in this subreddit (related to the other subreddit of course). We would love feedback on the format, and feel that we are helping contribute to thought out analysis rather than FUD or tribalism in the space.Check out the episode here

Is mining even worth trying?

I love cryptocurrency, and love the idea of owning a rig and trying to mine. But I feel like so many people already do it and have poured so much into it that if I were to try to on a $1,500 it still would not be worth it for most coins. Even with electricity costs included the competition is so steep for a simple enthusiast. Thoughts?

Major Banks worldwide looking into issuing their own Cryptocurrencies as use of physical cash remains on the decline:

There's been a few announcements lurking in the news this morning (And over the past year or so) but today was apparently a push day on the news. The best article I've seen so far is as follows:https://ift.tt/2RhmFdc is the press release from this morning:https://ift.tt/2v8vn4F, England, Japan, European Central Bank, Swiss National, Sveriges Riksbank and Bank for International Settlements are all involved. No USA, but that's not too surprising given the excessive amount of regulation there. There have been plenty of rumblings about things like this in the past, but this is the first coordinated effort I've seen from banking consortiums worldwide. It might not be related to any of the cryptos you currently hold, but this is getting to a size and a scope that governments and banks can't ignore any more. You might not see a US Digital Dollar any time soon, but we might see a "Digital Loonie" up here within a couple of years time :)

My views on Non-Custodial vs Centralised Crypto Debit Cards

Hey everyone, I had a great discussion on r/ethereum regarding ETH powered crypto debit cards. Would love to hear what you guys think of crypto cards in general, particularly the decentralised vs centralised argumentLooking at a few cards, all of which are available in the UK.I do want to make everyone aware that I very much favour decentralised services, what with the amount of hacks that take place these days, but I do appreciate the usability of a centralised service, tooCoinbase CardCentralised or Decentralised? CentralisedCrypto exchange fees: 2.49% - one of the highest I've seenUsability: To be honest, I'd probably give Coinbase a solid 9/10 for usability - I know they get a bad rap around r/cc but from a usability perspective, it's a pretty good appRewards? No rewardsCard design: Like Monolith & Wirex, I think the Coinbase card design is pretty basic and dull.Overall rating: This was the first crypto card I ever received back when there was a waiting list for it. It's got a great mobile app & allows for a good experience when using it, however - 2.49% fees on exchanging crypto just isn't competitive. Monolith charge 2% and Plutus, discussed below, charge 1.3%.Plutus CardCentralised or Decentralised? Decentralised (my favourite part)Crypto exchange fees: 1.3%Usability: Ok, so this was a tough one. The mobile app is awesome, and does everything you'd like it to. BUT - I can't exchange crypto via the app (apparently this is coming in Q1 according to my previous thread), I can only exchange it on the web dashboard which, from what I've experienced, is very user friendly, especially with Metamask integrated.Rewards? Not yet. They're saying that soon(tm) we'll be rewarded 3% of our payments back in Pluton. So if I spend £100, I should receive 3% back in PLU.Card design: The Plutus card design has to be one of the best on the market imoOverall rating: Although I've only used Plutus for a month, I've warmed to it a lot. There's plenty of improvements to be made but the team seems quite keen to get the job done. The fees are much more reasonable than the Coinbase card - even though they're the big player here?! Despite it being decentralised, all my trades have gone through instantly. Looking forward to seeing what else they've got.Does anyone have any experience with any of the other cards on the market? I'm thinking about ordering a Wirex one, but I'm not too keen on paying a monthly maintenance fee (maintenance of what btw?!). I've got a Monolith one which has been great and was discussed more last week on r/ethereumThis is all my personal opinion and what I've learnt from individual research. Always do your own before pursuing any product or service

Here in Venezuela, some people is using LocalBitcoin to sell Petro at 50% of their " fixed price by the goverment"

Hello guys,Venezuelan here, you can check my post history.Weeks ago government airdropped 0.5 PTR (Petro) to public workers and pensioners. They claim to have reached 6millons Venezuelans.According to the government the Petro acts more like a cryptoasset than a crytocoin, they "fixed" the value at 60 USD.Most people didn't know what to do with the petro, there was a "opening" here we have some kind of POS that was able to get access to the Petros only using your fingerprint (it is called Biopago), when people learnt about this lines were in the stores that that Biopago, and use their 30 USD (0.5 PTR) buying things. But after a few days, government disabled that way because USD/Bs. (bolivares) exchange rate started going up. There was another way of using the petros, using a proper wallet (Called PetroWallet or PetroBilletera), also disabled after some time. You can go to "authorized by the goverment" exchanges, some of the offer the way of exchanging them, as it is free market and more people want to sell that people wanting to purchase, the price has dropped to 1 PRT around 30 USD (50%), of course a socialist government doesn't like this, they say its price MUST be 60 USD.Some people is also using Localbitcoin to list Petros, but at the real market price (30 USD per unit).Minimum wage (which is earned by a big chuck of the population, not like other countries) is 250,000 Bs. wage (less than 3 USD) + 200,000 Bs. food bonus (less than 3 USD) PER MONTH. Increased from 150,000 Bs. and 150,000 Bs.Biggest bank note is 50,000 Bs. which is around 1 USD. You need to use debit and credit, bank transfer, cryptos and USD to pay anything. Here in Venezuela situation is really hard, some people dont believe that amount is the minimum MONTHLY wage. I work and earn more than that (anyway, the amount is really low, I'm sure with that amount I would be living homeless in Colombia, Peru or Panama for example), usually get some donations from redditors and do some freelancing work (translating mostly) and it is really hard to keep up daily.AMA.

I thought this video from Bloomberg about WeWork seems fitting in the cryptocurrency market.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2LwIiKhczo$125 million to $4 billion ICOs when other startups only require under $60 million for pretty much the same product is a huge warning sign, even if their intentions are good. Someone messaged me explaining their ‘copy trading’ system, and I immediately thought it was some scam bot.. but it turns out it’s just a skilled bitcoin trader who will let you copy his trades to your own secure account with a 5% fee of the profits. I really don’t see any way this could be anything other than exactly what he says, he is up front with the 5% fee and doesn’t seem pushy- just excited about bitcoin and trying to get more commissions. Thoughts? I’m thinking about putting 500 into it to see what happens.

If you're looking for exposure to DeFi in your portfolio I highly recommending looking into Thorchain. As a $10MM market cap you don't get much better risk:reward than this. They were quietly incubated by Binance and given funding to help develop and deploy decentralized cross chain liquidity pools running on the BEP-2 (Binance chain) decentralized exchange. I wouldn't be surprised if you see further collaboration between Binance and Thorchain. This is a project with an actual use case, real fundamentals.Do your own research!

Consumer Electronics Show 2020 Displays Wealth of Incoming Blockchain Technology

"Two blockchain-related technologies won conference “Innovation Awards” for their ingenuity, allowing their products to be featured at the final gadget showcase of CES’ best products. The Blok on Blok (BOB for short) claims to be the world’s first entirely blockchain-powered phone, developed by a company in Singapore. Originally introduced as a prototype in 2018, the BOB has been rebranded slightly and updated to include a more secure operating system. Not only will the phone allow calls, texts and internet connection to take place entirely over baked-in decentralized networks, but each BOB itself acts as a node for this network, allowing customers to create their own community. Also winning accolades in the field of cybersecurity and privacy was IoTex’s Ucam, a home security camera designed to use blockchain technology to make recorded data as secure as possible. Positioning itself as a contrast to Amazon’s home security, the developers of Ucam have noted the degree to which employees at Amazon are able to access users’ own footage with little oversight. When streams of data are recorded by Ucam, they are encrypted before being sent to storage on IoTex’s massive data servers. The permissions for decoding these encryptions are made with distributed ledger technology, and as a result only the actual owner of the device is able to create usable files. This allows the user to store larger amounts of data than would be practical to keep as an individual homeowner, while also ensuring that no other party has any access themselves."Ucam is backed by IoTeX's privacy-based blockchain to encrypt all data from anyone but the user. It is slated to hit the market in March 2020.https://ift.tt/2G3219Z

The crypto can be redeemed and used towards future purchases of gift certificates. I’m wondering what your thoughts are for the best route to take to do this. My understanding is that I can either copy and tailor litecoin or use a platform such as ethereum. Does anyone know the best way to get started?

XRP is basically dead, right?

So continuingly diminshing in activity since 2018, a price that never seems to recover, and even the subreddit dedicated to it is depressing.Kinda feels like the low activity is the last few beats before a flat line.

Any developments on the Mt Gox case and pay outs that would suppress BTC price action ?

Couldn't quickly find it on Google. Once the case was settled enormous amounts of BTC were to be sold as compensation for the exchange collapse victims. Or something like that 🙃Nothing ever materialized it seems. Or is there a constant sale of Mt Gox funds and is its price suppression simply smaller than the upwards action of BTC ?

Some thoughts and facts on STEEM

With the recent increase in price and many here maybe holding onto it or having FOMO'd in recently I figured I'd write a post with some info about Steem and what else you can do with it than just hodling on exchanges (which kind of penalizes you as there's ongoing inflation). So this is more for you long term holders/traders who might feel safer holding Steem in your wallets instead of exchanges. Also this info is written off the top of my head of what I think might interest you, to find out more about Steem and things I may not mention here check out the Steemit FAQ page, although some stuff may be outdated there as the chain is in constant development.Account creation and keysSteemit.com, the flagship front-end of the Steem blockchain offers free accounts, to avoid abuse of account creation they ask you for phone number and email. There are alternatives though such as https://ift.tt/2c0H2pB and users with stake (Steem Power) can claim accounts through the new resource credit system in place which they can use to create accounts for others through websites such as steemworld.org or steeminvite.com. The main difference between creating your account through Steemit.com and steeminvite.com is that the former offers account recovery if your master key gets copied/hacked, where you then can use your email you signed up with to verify you're the original creator and get your key reset. Losing your key, though, means no one will be able to help you, much like with any other cryptocurrency address. My advice when you create your account is that you store your master and owner key off-line and only have easy access to your posting key (used for voting, posting, commenting, following, etc) and active key (used for STEEM transfers, delegations, power ups/downs). If any of these two keys get copied/stolen/hacked you can use your off-line stored keys to change them to lock out the hacker. To make holding liquid STEEM even safer on your account there is a "savings" feature which takes up to 3 days to move your stored liquid STEEM back to your wallet. This gives you time to reset keys in case a hacker attempts to do this and to avoid your liquid STEEM getting stolen instantly.Steem ecosystem and economic improvementAnyway, enough about keys, let's get into the specifics of Steem. It's delegated proof of stake where text based content is immutably stored on the chain. When you write a post/comment you can allocate rewards from the inflation pool and they have 7 days to reach consensus on how much rewards the post should make before they are paid out. Since a recent Hardfork you can edit posts and comments even after payout but the original one will always be traceable on the chain, hence be careful not to post something you don't want to be on the chain forever.Other things you should know about Steem is that there are witnesses/block producers that are scheduled for signing blocks in accordance with the stake supporting them, they receive about 10% of Steem's new inflation for keeping the chain running. Another 10% now goes to the @steem.dao which works similar to witness voting where you use stake to vote up proposals created by anyone who is looking into funding for projects. Of course something that's in the best interest of the Steem ecosystem and having some reputation helps getting funded.Steem had a linear reward curve for 2 years which brought the rise of "bid bots" where stakholders were selling their votes, since hardfork 22 a few months ago the whole economy has changed and bid bots are now frowned upon and seldom used, here is why:The new Economic Improvement Proposal (EIP) added a separate downvote mana pool up to 25% of your usual upvote mana to be used for overrewarded content. In the past barely anyone used their downvotes as it cost them upvote mana which meant curation rewards/steem inflation. This addition disencintivized many to use bid bots on garbage posts as the ROI was not there anymore when downvotes followed. Now users either buy votes when they really want a post on the Trending list or if they believe the quality will perform well and not cause many downvotes to occur. Along with this change curation and post rewards are now 50/50 from the previous 25/75 and there is a new curve that incentivizes higher rewards if more voting stake lands on specific posts. This makes "hidden" low reward farming get taxed and those posts that get more rewards often land in the vicinity of others to determine if they agree with the rewards or not. This has effectively brought an end to a lot of leeching/leakage of "free rewards".Content discovery and curation has never been better on Steem than it is today. Most previous bid bots are now curating along with other curation projects effectively trying to find good quality posts that have not received a lot of rewards. They then promote them to other stakeholders/their followers as they get compensated for it with higher curation rewards for having cast their votes early/first on the posts. I run a curation project personally as well and I can tell you it's not easy finding under-rewarded quality content anymore.Communities is something that has been planned for Steem for a long time and is now finally available on the beta.steemit.com page. Anyone can create their own immutable communities (think similar to subreddits). On top of that Smart Media Tokens are now on the testnet to be deployed in the next hardfork, along with possibly a shortened timer for power downs (unstaking your Steem Power back into liquid STEEM) from 13 weeks down to 4.I'm gonna try and keep this short even though as someone who's been involved with Steem in the past 3.5 years it really is not easy as even at a 98% price decline from the top so much is happening on the chain constantly and still so many people involved.Pros and ConsPros of Steem: The DAO is new and with a higher marketcap of STEEM could help fund a lot of things, including development of the chain as to not only rely on Steemit Inc in the future.Inflation is now down and the swings in prices have caused for much better distribution. Inflation is set to decrease 0.5% per year until a constant 0.5% in ~16 years at around 800 million STEEM in existence.Easy way to get an account, will become even easier in the future with "guest accounts/light accounts" and with many front-ends and projects also offering temporary accounts so users can "earn their account" through being active. Low account cost of only 3 STEEM or being able to claim a free account once every 5 days as long as you have around 7k Steem Power staked.Easy introduction to blockchain technology for non-crypto folks. Many are already familiar with Reddit so the jump into Steem is easy for those not caring about the specifics but just wanting to blog, share, interact, etc.Better user retention rate due to the new economic improvements. Voting is less selfish, those attempting to increase their ROI through constant self-voting/vote-trading get penalized by downvotes from the community. Many have stopped attempting though as it's not worth it considering doing good/early curation is more rewarding and they realize it helps the ecosystem by empowering proof of brain and content discovery. Along with that, distribution has improved drastically as a lot of stake is actively curating or delegating to curation projects that take a cut of the rewards for their work.Steem is a great application specific blockchain that realizes not everything needs to be decentralized for it to work. For the lack of smart contracts it makes up for it with a very scalable chain which is catering to all kinds of dapps. If you prefer smart contracts there's nothing stopping you from creating a side-chain that uses Steem to validate the code, the same way steem-engine.com does. Steem Engine has already started creating a lot of smart tokens, including NFT's.Steem has had the advantage of being one of the first to move into the social media aspect of blockchains but with first mover advantage comes also first mover cost where everything is still so experimental and every move you make wrong. There is always someone to fork the code and start their own project stating how "they will do things right". Many have attempted and forked Steem but any have yet to pose a real threat.Cons of Steem: Steemit Inc being the main developer of the blockchain; although they have made sure it will scale well many functions such as Communities and SMT's were delayed by a lot due to the harsh bear market and corporate operational issues.Early hyperinflation caused very bad distribution and the initial 2 year powerdown lock up caused many not to invest in Steem. On top of that, some early miners who found out about Steem managed to get a lot of stake early on. That includes Steemit Inc itself, which engineered itself to be the prime miner with the majority of mined stake. With hyperinflation, it didn't help.Dan Larimer being involved early on and his reputation.Ending thoughtsSteem is a really cool experiment that survived the bear market and kept on building. Social Media needs a certain amount of users that know someone in their circle who are on there to really pop but with a robust blockchain that is ready to scale and maintain it's userbase with a very high TPS throughput I am confident the future of Steem is bright and the protocol will only keep improving over time.PS! We also have a subreddit where we post some news now and then if you wanna stay up to date with Steem: /r/steemit although not much happens there since most Steemians prefer Steem rewards over Reddit karma. :P You can request for a free Steem account through steeminvite.com in the subreddit as well, check one of the pinned posts.

Why is the exchange rate for cash—> BTC always more expensive than blockchain updates on exchange rates?

I personally prefer using Coin BTMs, but the one drawback is the price difference. For example when I checked earlier, it was 1USD to ~8800BTC but all of the machines in my local city are at about 9500-10k.Why is this?

The strong case for Monero – fulfilling characteristics of the future currency

I wanted to write a short article about the distinct characteristics of Monero, some of which are absolutely necessities in any future currency looking to gaining serious user adoption. Together, these separate Monero quite distinctly from the rest of the crypto field. This is certainly nothing new to the Monero seniors here, but it might contain some new perspectives, and also give an overview to the newer cryptofolk why Monero is quite unique -1. Transactions are private by defaultThe sender, receiver and amount are all hidden in Monero. This is by default, as opposed to some other private cryptocurrencies, such as Zcash, where you can optionally make private transactions. As a result, most transactions in Zcash are transparent, which makes the actual anonymity set small. In Bitcoin there is no real anonymity, because everything occurs in a transparent blockchain – the sender, receiver and amount are all public information. This has created a market for blockchain analysis, where companies keep track of the of transactions and make profit from this information. Furthermore, because the full history of sent and received Bitcoins and other transparent cryptocurrencies can be analyzed, the newly minted coins are generally more valuable than others. This phenomenon is called ‘taint’, and it exists only in transparent blockchains.Besides speculative holding, no real-world use will emerge in any blockchain that is transparent. No company is prepared to publicly devolve how much, when and to which suppliers they send funds. Or vice versa, no company wants its competitors to know how many customers have paid them in the last quarter. Similarly, no sensible, privacy-valuing person should be willing to share his or her personal consuming habits with the whole world, forever.2. Community-driven – no company, no CEOMost understand cryptocurrencies are decentralized because different stakeholders all over the world participate in the process of mining, verifying and relying information from one stakeholder to another. It is practically impossible to stop this type of well distributed global network from operating. The network topology, however, is only one part of the decentralization. If everything is controlled by a single entity, it creates a single point of failure. As an example, if everything is funded, developed and coordinated by a single company or a few companies, which funds can be seized, executives jailed and operations stopped, how secure is this cryptocurrency in the end? In Monero, there is no company, no CEO, no office. Everything is coordinated by members of the community, globally.3. Emission is dis-inflationary and it reduces constantlyMonero’s emission, i.e. generation of new coins, reduces every block (2 minutes). In Bitcoin, the emission is reduced every four years. This causes sudden shocks to the Bitcoin ecosystem, because miners’ rewards are halved. Such a dramatic decrease will inevitably lead to some miners abandoning their mining activities. Because proof-of-work (POW) cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Monero rely on miners to secure the network, any significant decrease in mining is detrimental to the network’s security. On the other hand, the smoother emission in Monero makes mining activities more stable, which improves the security and trust of the whole system.Another future-proofing factor in Monero is the tail emission, where the block reward will no longer decrease from 0.6 XMR after mid 2022. Minimum block reward incentives miners to continue mining even if the transaction fees do not cover all economic needs of the competing miners.Comparing this to FIAT currencies, which are inflating 2-6 % each year, Monero’s inflation is asymptotically approaching 0 %. Even though new coins are generated by every block, the amount created per given time period remains constant after mid 2022. Contrast this to the FIAT systems, where the amount of new currency created is always increasing. Due to the compounding effect even moderate inflation in FIAT currencies causes considerable losses to all savers in medium and long term.4. Block size is dynamic – it scales with number of transactionsMonero’s block size has no cap, which means the amount of transactions that can fit to the block is not limited. To prevent transaction spamming, preventive mechanisms have been built in the protocol.Cryptocurrencies which implement a hard cap on the block size are susceptible to surging transactions fees. This occurs when there are simply too many transactions trying to make it into the block. Such a phenomenon occurred in Bitcoin during the peak of the last bull-run in January 2018, when the average transaction fees rose above $20.5. Fair supply – no premine or developer taxSupply mechanism and distribution are two elemental factors, which affect how capable the cryptocurrency is as a store of value (SOV). If a large majority of the future supply is held by a small group of people, it undermines the trust that the cryptocurrency keeps its value long term. If only a few stakeholders can massively increase the supply side of the market, the downward price risk becomes high. The more distributed the supply, the more stakeholders it takes to influence it.Two practical implementations that undermine SOV in cryptocurrencies are premine and developer tax. In premine, the founders create a large initial amount of funds for themselves (or for their organization). Premining is an issue in some POW currencies and in all proof-of-stake (POS) cryptocurrencies, because their coin generation is not done by work. Developer tax is implemented in some POW currencies, where a portion of the block reward goes to the founders.6. Crowdfunding and voluntarism as driving forcesSince the launch of Monero in 2014, all progression has been made by its rich and versatile community. Active members consist of several PhD researchers, developers, UX designers, translators and many other professionals of varying backgrounds. Much of the work has been made possible using crowdfunding, donors being individuals, investors and companies. Some members have participated even pro-bono, which further emphasizes the community’s trust in the project. The fact that the work is enabled by crowfunding and voluntarism is truly a strength, because it is difficult to stop ideology and people who want to be part of such force. This is in stark contrast to company-driven projects, which are much more susceptible to government oversight and control.7. Mining is more sustainableMonero’s mining algorithm, Random X, specifically targets general purpose CPUs and it is unsuitable to be mined with application-specific integrated circuits (ASICS). This greatly improves mining decentralization, because mining is feasible on data centers and personal computers. In Bitcoin and many other POW cryptocurrencies mining is only feasible with expensive ASICS, manufactured by just a few companies.ASIC mined cryptocurrencies are problematic because there are very few companies specializing in mining equipment. Bitcoin’s largest ASIC manufacturer, Bitmain, has had overly much power in the ecosystem. They have stalled Bitcoin’s adoption, caused division among the community and even been one of the principal culprits for the past Bitcoin forks.Another problem with ASIC manufacturers is their economic advantage over the rest of the mining field. ASIC manufacturers typically utilize their next generation products themselves and start selling them to the consumer market after their mining profits have reduced sufficiently due to the increasing competition. This makes normal miners second tier stakeholders in the ecosystem and it is a cause of further mining centralization.8. Proven track recordMonero community has been working actively since its inception in 2014. Majority of the work has focused on research and development, with little efforts put to marketing. Unlike some other projects, especially those forked from Bitcoin, Monero project has an extensive technical skillset in its community and it has been one of the leading projects when it comes to both innovation and execution. One of the Monero’s focus points is applied cryptographic research. Monero has implemented several advancements into the core protocol efficiently and with assurance. All major changes to the Monero protocol have been audited by some of the world’s leading companies specializing in cryptographic analysis, funded by the Monero community.

What if centralized exchanges add a small % of coins to their own balance(out of thin air) and sell them on the exchange knowing that traders will never withdraw 100% of the coins off the exchange?

And even if by some small chance that 100% of coins would be withdrawn by users, they can just buy back from the market(other exchanges) to cover that coin. There is no real way to make sure that the coins are 100% backed by balance.I haven't seen a discussion about it anywhere..What if that's what drove the 90% market decline of all crypto? (or at least the most part of it)Do you trust your exchange to be 100% backed?Discuss.

Ethereum is happening

The pace at which good things happen on Ethereum is accelerating:- The amount locked in defi is booming- Plasma is actually happening- Scaling under its rollups form is already here on eth 1- Despite the delays, eth 2 is undeniably happening- EIP 1559 will most likely be implemented and will significantly reduce issuance- The merging of eth 1 into eth 2 (eth 1.5) is a superbly elegant solution to the two chains problem and will not only make the transition way quicker but will decrease issuance even more- On-boarding through communication and education is finally fully part of the plan- Communication to the community has improved a lot (big up to Danny Ryan)- The interconnected dapps ecosystem (LEGOS thing) is becoming more and more robust every day. Take part in PoolTogether, switch you eth to dai using Uniswap without even leaving PoolTogether.- No other platform comes close to any of thisThere are still mountains to be climbed but it's all looking pretty damn good.If you're interested in learning more about Ethereum, consider joining r/ethereum and especially r/ethfinance

Friendly reminder to get your coins off of exchanges and into cold wallets if you are not actively trading

Title says it all. Not your keys not your coins. This might be common sense to many of you but this is to the newer users who are keeping all their crypto portfolio to coinbase exclusively etc. Please take your coins offline. Look into a trezor or paper wallet its fairly easy to search this sub or the internet and find reliable sources. Not only will this protect you from cyber attacks on exchanges but it will actually help the the price of bitcoin and other alt coins to increase because there is less on the market being sold etc. Also the exchanges cant manipulate using your coins etc. Its overall a win win. If you are day trading during this madness carry on you crazy mf and may you receive all the lambomoonseverforever.

BlockFi interest account, too good to be true?

Hello all, I just had this blockfi add pop up on my brave browser and thought I’d reach out to the community to see what the thoughts are on them. Since I’m probably like most, I have my crypto investments in my secure wallet just sitting not really doing anything. But with the idea of earning compounding interest on what I’m essentially just holding just sounds to go to be true to me.So I’m curious if anyone has an account with them and how is it going. Any issues withdrawing your assets back out, minus the possible 7 day time period? Thanks for any opinions or feedback!

[SCAM]Big Youtube scam running right now from hacked account!

Earlier today the artist POGO got his account (850k subscribers) hacked. His twitter saysMy @YouTube channel is hacked. 13 years of content just got deleted. Hackers have transferred the channel to their account. @TeamYouTube has yet to step in and help despite my efforts. I'm sorry everybody. They look like scammers -- please avoid clickbait! So now the hackers are running a "Live" video called "Ethereum ETH 2.0 Release & Bitcoin - Binance & Coinbase Gіveaway Participate NOW ethereum eth btc"In which they present a giveaway which asks you to send 0.1 BTC to an adress, and 0.5 BTC will instantly be sent back to you. This is quite obviously a SCAM.Binance has tweeted about things like this beforeAlert!Scammers are impersonating official Binance accounts and tweeting to ask for deposits to specific addresses in return for gifts. You will lose your tokens if you do this!Binance will never ask you to send coins directly to any address for any reason.
