why I'm using coingecko over coinmarketcap.com.

Author's forenote: this comes from my place as a cryptocurrency holder and trader, not a moderator of this sub. This post in some ways has been inspired by a couple of other threads here and I was wondering whether or not I should post this thread for the past few days.I guess now it is relevant though. Why i prefer using coingecko over cmc:1.ERC20 Contract addresses are listed on the coin's page.2.Im not sure what their criteria for coin "rankings" are besides market cap, but as an example, coingecko lists polkadot as a top 10 coin by volume, but on cmc it's in the top 2000.3.AFAIK I haven't seen any "paid shillings" like the recent band protocol educational shit on cmc.4.I think it's nice to see how a coin has performed in the past 24 hours to 7 days without having to click on anything else on screen. The only thing I dont like about coingecko: when you click on a coin, it shows the 24 hour graph by default.last I checked cmc gets 30 million visitors a month while coingecko gets about 1 3rd of that.As always, DYOR.

The burning of LTO has begun

After a successful voting period from block 850,000 to 860,000 with over 90% miner support, LTO Network's deflationary transaction structure has officially activated on Friday the 28th of August (block 870,000).Info: https://ift.tt/2GdRdtb now on every transaction made on LTO mainnet will burn 0.1 LTO. With 60,000 txs per day this is 6,000 LTO burned every 24 hours, or approximately 180,000 per month. Additional clients and projects are in the pipeline, constantly increasing the number of txs.Burned token amounts can be viewed on the generators page for now: https://ift.tt/34R75vQ those that run a community node with a payout script, an update is necessary of the appng.js file, which you can find here:https://ift.tt/2ERj29O

Help with paper wallet

So I was thinking about the process of creating paper wallets of BTC and XMR for myself. It's a beginner question so bear with me.The process that I'd use would involve a live usb stick with a linux distro of my preference and a formatted old notebook I have without internet connection. I'd copy the seed generated by the wallet by hand on a piece of paper and store it in a container like it's recommended in the monero website. then I'd paste the public key to a file and store it in another formatted usb key (using an standard file format) and then copy the file from the stick to my working PC. I'd do this because it doesn't seem reasonable to copy the public key by hand, I'd prob get something wrong. Is this a reasonable method? Should I really be paranoid and even disconnect the charging cable from my laptop like it's stated on the monero website? Is it enough to use dd (in linux) to erase the usb stick that'll store the public key? What are other steps I can take to make the process safer? If all is wrong can someone link me a complete beginners guide or something like that?I wont buy those metal wallets, for me they are a waste of money and they dont solve the problem of not having to write the public key by hand.

Plair CEO Boxmining interview on the way

Plair CEO Pattrick had a interview with Boxmining on monday and is due to be released mid this week, could this be what restores confidence in the project? Looking forward to hearing what progress is being made in one of cryptos most ambitious competetive gaming and streaming platforms. We feel CEO Pattrick would not be having this interview unless there was some positive news to be had. Progress had slowed the last year or so and confidence has droped. As much as this has been bad for sentiment it also makes it the perfect time to get involved as the market cap is so low. We are exspecting a big rise in attention to Plair after the interview as boxmining has 211,000 subscribers and many more casual viewers. Plair just recently made a partnership with JustBet where PLA and VET can be used on the platform. To me this also shows that Vechain is still backing Plair and Pattrick has told us that he plans to meet up with Sunny and Vechain team as soon as he gets back into China as Covid has left him stranded in Hong Kong. Pattrick reassured us that all big investors such as Tim Draper are still involved with Plair and to me this is confidence enough as they dont continue to associate them selvs with projects they dont believe in. If you are unaware Breyer Capital actually removed Ethereum from there investments but are still invested in Vechain. To get your hands on some PLA and be part of the upcoming future of gaming the best place to aquire it is is Vechains official exchange OceanExhttps://oceanex.pro/signup?referral=PLR4S4Also visit Plairs website and click platform where you can register. You will be able to see the beta tournaments that have taken place and can keep a look out for any upcoming. Pattrick has also promissed us a new updated roadmap as the current one is outdated so keep a look out for that also.https://plair.life/This is Boxminings channel so keep a look out for the upcoming interview due this week!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxODjeUwZHk3p-7TU-IsDOAhttps://preview.redd.it/ou5n3qmnq7k51.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f08f6f835a6770f187e847123a1097ae136f659

Your Choice To Make

TL;DR: Wakey wakey, give a crap about freedom, or accept the consequences.Another Sunday afternoon, another news item about Monero being delisted from a centralized exchange, this time in Australia.Last year it was OKEx and others.Just a few days ago it was Coinspot. It is sort of an open secret that Coinbase is not listing Monero due to external pressures. Today we're hit with news that Kraken will be ceasing Monero trading for AU residents. And you will also recall that Japan and South Korea have made similar moves. It's a near impossibility with me, especially when powered by caffeine, which is most definitely the case today, but I will try to make this brief, sweet and to the point. These are not isolated incidents. There is an International Organization™ in particular orchestrating, behind the scenes, the policies and requirements that financial institutions (crypto exchanges have since joined that category for this purpose) must follow, or else. Here is what bothers me about this.Have you been consulted about this? Anyone you know?Heard of it in the news?Yeah, me neither. You have to know where to look to find some information on what they would like to see happening (we'll get to that in a moment), and often you have to read PDFs with dozens of pages to find the good stuff too.I will leave that as an exercise to the reader. Suffice to say, I have been digging a bit deeper myself, and what I found shocked me.FATF wants nothing less than the complete elimination of anonymity and privacy in financial affairs, even going so far as to consider BANNING peer to peer transactions so that people are forced to interact with each other through exchanges, where data collection is more reliable and certain, effectively obliterating one of the major selling points of cryptocurrency (p2p-ness) with complete disregard for the millions of people who are already onboard with the vision. No privacy and no anonymity, imagine that. Many of you probably already use plastic cards for everything, day in day out, and don't think too much about this stuff. But the fact that an international organization that you have little to zero democratic control over is planning to get rid of class of financial tools that 99.99999% of people don't even realize exists yet should give you pause for concern. The tools I speak of are, of course, digital cash-like cryptocurrencies like Monero.I would like you to PAUSE, daydream a bit, visualize and imagine, what a world without zero financial privacy/anonymity would look like.Consider, this has certainly not been the case in human history, ever -- yes, even today.Today most of you still have cash as a choice. But what happens when that goes out of the window, and the only options are CBDCs, CorporateCoins, and transparent cryptocurrency ?Needless to say, both in the case of CorporateCoins and CBDCs, there will be little to none privacy/anonymity, and even if there was (in the case of CorporateCoin), the state would obviously bully its way into it and force them to do otherwise (without being asked to do so, of course). So, imagine that world.Every donation you make. Every $50 transfer to a friend or family member. Every item you buy. Every service you purchase. Every money you send to help a friend you.All of it stored, forever, to be accessed later at will for whatever reasons.Would you make the same choices, knowing that your entire financial life is entirely exposed to powerful organizations of which you likely know very little about and almost certainly can hardly ever influence at all?Does that seem like a good recipe for a free society?ConsequencesThe people at the top either don't care about the consequences of what they're imposing worldwide, or they don't understand.Sounds highly concerning to me either way - It comes down to either bullying or ignorance.Would you ever have truly heart-to-heart conversations if you knew your worst enemy was potentially watching and recording everything?Could you make passionate love knowing hundreds of strangers are analyzing your every move? Can you be spontaneous knowing you are being recorded? What if you did not have a choice in those matters ?!What if someone has already decided for you, your friends, your family, your neighbors, your country, that you are all potential criminals and the thing to do is to keep records on everyone, just in case ?Newsflash: It already happened. It's been happening for awhile, and it seems to be picking up pace; the technology that was going to liberate us, slowly enslaving us instead -- because the general public largely does not understand the issues at hand, while the elite certainly does, and boy oh boy, are they thrilled with the technological advancements that help them cement their power. What do I mean by cement?Imagine trying to kick-start civil rights in a place where every social map is known, everything a person is interested in is known, every transaction they make is known, every website they have visited is known, every time they step on the street, an AI-powered camera automatically identifies them and tracks their movement. You would be unable to organize. To exchange value. To discuss behind curtains, so to speak. You would not have any privacy, and you would not have any anonymity.Could you be free under these circumstances?ConclusionIt's been a long road towards more freedom, but nowdays it is disappearing fast. Stopping to consider the implications is a most pressing issue. They want Monero(-like tools) GONE because Monero ACTUALLY would change the paradigm.By the time they are done with their "recommendations" (which really mean: comply, or else...), mark my words, there will be a name behind every Bitcoin address in some centralized database, query-able by partners in deciding who can and cannot use the system.Merchants will be forced to perform chain analysis and by law they will be compelled to reject/refund/report transactions coming from "anonymous clusters" (addresses that are not known to have an identity tied to them). This is what the normalization of the lack of privacy has brought us.The possibility was there, and they took it. Of course they did.I repeat, it is no accident that it's not Dogecoin and Nano, Bitcoin or Litecoin being delisted. The star of the show (for better or for worse) is Monero, and that is because it works. It lets you transact anonymously and privately, like cash - why the hell should FATF know that you sent $500 to your mother last week? in fact, why the hell should they know your entire financial history?!When cash goes (and we can be fairly certain that it will be gone; would already be gone if this sort of authoritarian mindset had its way), Monero or tools like Monero, will become the only way to make any transaction outside the eyes of the state. It's not because you have anything (nefarious) to hide. It's not because you're a criminal.Rather, it's because to accept anything else is to bow to tyranny. It's your choice to make - are you meekly going to accept that in perhaps less than a decade there will be zero privacy and anonymity in financial matters, or are you going to fight back? Will you organize, campaign, email, discuss, spread awareness? Will you spend precious summer Sunday afternoons writing for strangers on the Internet trying to help a few more see the major shit-show we're headed into?Or will you be a good boy and do what you're told?Tomorrow, by the way - if left unchallenged - it won't just be financial privacy that disappears. One of the most prominent examples in the introductory part of this post (Australia) has already made quite clear that they don't like the fact that people can hide things from them (encryption). In other words, either they know about it (and archive it forever), or you better let them know. After all, a threat - any threat! - could be lurking somewhere in that encrypted data. And you have nothing to hide anyway, yes? This is a cryptocurrency sub though so let's not steer too far from that. It is important to remember that ultimately the issue is the same though - totalitarian control over everyone's life; mass-surveillance, and the ability to rewind and see someone's entire life exposed for the benefit of the state.Their actions are letting you know what really works and what really threatens the status quo. That is useful information. If you care at all about the freedom and privacy of your future self, your friends and family, children present or future, I think you would do well to think long and hard about these issues.Because the direction assumed by the most prominent regulators seems to be headed in a uniform direction - that is no surprise, seeing as how they meet with each other. You have to ask yourself though, is this for your benefit, your safety?Or is it to keep the statuo quo?How would the world be different if human beings - regardless of color, nationality, age, sexual orientation, political beliefs- with an Internet connection could freely exchange value privately and anonymously (the way we can still communicate private and anonymously in most places today - though not so in authoritarian places like China, AND THAT IS NOT A COINCIDENCE)?It would be instant, like an instant message. It would cost very little.Well, I have news for you: It's already possible, and a growing number of people are realizing this. This tool is called Monero. It exists today, and the cat is out of the bag. The technology will only get better, and more interesting tools may even come along later. In fact, barring mass persecution of open-source developers, that is very likely what is going to happen, as ultrasmart people everywhere congregate in virtual spaces to discuss better ways to do stuff. If we keep losing our right to be left alone until suspected of a crime, life will increasingly come to resemble what the regulator types are - consciously or unconsciously - creating: a Panopticon society. If you don't speak up, then the decision has already been made - and you're probably going to live to regret being complicit in it.Freedom or Tyranny. It's your choice to make.p.s: Yes, totally failed at making this short. I guess it's just not my thing.

Can we talk about the bots pumping articles out right now

Just browse 'New' of either this sub or r/bitcoinIts apparent that hundreds of bots are up voting and spreading positive news articles about bitcoin and other coins,Yes ill make money BUT aren't we in crypto for the long haul? im more interested in making money over the long term then to watch these artificial pumps and dumpsLike most investors are holing tezo until atleast September 9th when the binance deal goes publicBut thats a natural pump, more people are going to be buying it because alot of people only use binance. Not because some whale and his army of bots want to make a quick buck.

Crypto trading experiment update - FOMO vs FEAR - week 7

This is my 7th week of my crypto trading experiment, where I run four simulated portfolios, each started with $1000. Every week I sell the coins and rebuy, with the following allocations:Buy the top 5 performing coins of the week in the top 100 on CMC; (FOMO 100)Buy the top 5 performing coins of the week in the top 200 on CMC; (FOMO 200)Buy the bottom 5 performing coins of the week in the top 100 on CMC; (FEAR 100)Buy the bottom 5 performing coins of the week in the top 200 on CMC. (FEAR 200)For a control, this is compared against an initial $1000 of bitcoin (bought 7 weeks ago). And just for fun, for the last 2 weeks I've recorded my own trades, with five coins bought as I see fit.Now we are at week 7, with 6 weeks of trades recorded. I have also recorded all of the existing portfolio positions, so we can also compare how they performed if they had simply stopped trading and held.First = the bitcoin portfolio stands at $1,223 - a 22% gain in 6 weeks. Here is the most recent week portfolios and results (compared to my last update 2 weeks ago)FOMO 100: OMG, YFI, RSR, UTK, REN $1196 (DOWN from $1307)FOMO 200: OMG, YFI, OXT, RSR, UTK $1087 (DOWN from $1512)FEAR 100: ANT, AMPL, BNT, SXP, DIVI $1204 (UP from $1197)FEAR 200: PNT, ANT, DGXT, AMPL, ETHOS $1093 (UP from $995)My picks: OMG, LINK, TRAC, YFI, SNX $1386 (UP from $1253)So interestingly, while altcoins have possibly had a slightly rough journey over the last 2 weeks, the FEAR portfolios have recovered slightly, and the FOMO portfolios had a huge retrace. And here is a table showing ALL the portfolios over 6 weeks. So week 1 shows the position if I had bought but never traded again, while week 6 shows the effect of buying and re-selling over six weeks.Week 1Week 2Week 3Week 4Week 5Week 6AverageFOMO 100$1275$1386$1051$1201$1063$1196$1195FOMO 200$1036$1382$948$1264$1227$1087$1156FEAR 100$1032$1177$1483$1035$1001$1204$1155FEAR 200$973$1119$1391$840$908$1093$1054My picks$1383$1386$1385So looking at the current positions (week 6) the experiment has failed to matched bitcoin's movements, with the FEAR 100 portfolio close but not quite there. On the other hand if we average the results of all the portfolios over the six weeks, we see that the ranking favours the "FOMO" strategy (skewed towards the top 100) but only just.Quite happy with the performance of my picks so will try and keep that up.Also - a fun fact. The best buy over the entire 6 weeks was Solana, bought on July 30 and up 150% (bought in the FOMO 200 portfolio in week 4). The worse buy was not in fact Ampleforth (though that was close) - it was in fact Ditigtex, bought July 23 in the FEAR 200 portfolio in week 3 - down 52%.Week 8 portfolios as below with prices (recorded 2 days ago):My picks:  Lend 0.836 , Cosmos 7.82, YFI 15206, Kusama 30.90, Serum 2.04FOMO Top 100     Kusama  Ant (9.53) Celo 4.09 OMG 5.25  LEND 0.836FOMO top 200     Kusama Stake (19.64),  Ant (9.53)  Storj (0.464) Celo, OMG 5.25FEAR Top 100   Nervos (.007154), Wave 3.24  Hedgetrade 1.58, Holo 0.000741  ADA .1144FEAR Top 200   Swap (.8511)  Handshake (.142)  Trac (.197) Hive 0.23   NervosWill any of these be able to stand their ground vs BTC? Final update in 2 weeks!

10+ years in and it STILL feels like we're early

This is all anecdotal, but...As a freelancer and musician, I've offered to let people pay me via various different cryptos (BTC, ETH, LTC, and ADA most notably) and no one has done so. Additionally, other than Bitcoin, most people haven't even heard of any of the others. As a YouTuber, I list several crypto addresses (BTC, ETH, LTC, ADA, NANO, BAN) in my video descriptions and have never received any donations via those avenues. I have, however, gotten donations via PayPal, Patreon, and other "legacy" means. Even traditional mail.No one in my family would have any idea what crypto even is other than Bitcoin if it weren't for me talking about it and the only one who knew of Bitcoin before I mentioned it was my brother-in-law.(Some) relatively tech-savvy people I know still think that holding coins on anything other than CoinBase is way too complicated. I'm not even that good with technology, but I feel like Banano's Kalium wallet is super easy/intuitive and I've managed to use Ledger products and other types of wallets without any issues. These things (I guess) need to be much easier before the general public is going to use them.I honestly believe that there are cryptos with real world applications and I know this is nothing like how it was in 2011, but it really feels like we are in an uber niche area still.I just wonder if the space will ever really mature.

OriginTrail Decentralized Network will become new global standard for GS1 identifiers (barcodes, QR-codes etc).

GS1 is a neutral, not-for-profit organization that develops and maintains the most widely used global standards for business communication. The best known of these standards is the barcode, a symbol printed on products that can be scanned electronically. GS1 barcodes were named by the BBC as one of “the 50 things that made the world economy,”. With more than 5 billion barcodes scanned daily around the world, there are more transactions than Google searches every day. The GS1 system identifiers — the numbers you see beneath barcodes everywhere — and the technologies that drive the World Wide Web are mature and massively implemented.GS1 Digital Link combines the barcodes and the numbers, so that every identified ‘thing’, be it a product, a shipment, or any other kind of asset, can be linked to any number of sources of information about that thing using familiar and ubiquitous methods.” So the GS1 Digital Link standard extends the power and flexibility of GS1 by making them part of the Web.GS1 Digital Link will bring product identifiers into the digital world and Origin Trail enables GS1 Digital Link URLs to be an entry point to trusted product data for all stakeholders, businesses, and consumers. The Origin Trail Decentralized Network (ODN) acts as an interoperability layer that provides a unified view of the structured linked data connected.https://ift.tt/2EI35D6

WARNING!Please guys be extremely careful!

I hope my story will help some of you to never repeat my mistake.I just got scammed the way I never even thought is possible ( some of you might heard about this but I never heard until today).Decided to cash some money out thru Coinbase, logged-in and copied BTC wallet address thru built-in Copy function as it shows on the screenshot below.Logged in Binance to sent the BTC to Coinbase and just pasted the address from the buffer without second thought. Pushed the transaction. 1hour later I realized that its different address and only first 4 symbols are same. Somehow my copy-paste buffer changed the address from right one to wrong one.Money lost. No way to recover it. Please dont repeat my mistake do not blindly trust to copy-paste buffer , your computer could be infected with malware that swaps addresses and it will be too late when you realize that.P.S:Since Coinbase not showing whole address and first 4 symbols were the same it was very easy to overlookhttps://preview.redd.it/iem7nkx97aj51.png?width=373&format=png&auto=webp&s=1343cc72036278e982cd54b80e48eaf99dac2a8b

How would you recommend starting from $0?

Hey guys, I would like to start a challenge where I start with literally $0, gain a few dollars (probably via airdrops) and start investing and reinvesting to compound profits and eventually reach hopefully interesting numbers. I want to show others you don't have to have a bank to turn a nice profit eventually. Granted, I have 7+ years of experience in trading, but imo everyone can do the same if they're motivated and determined enough. What would you recommend? The first few dollars might be the hardest. BAT browser? Or is there any faster method to gain, let's say, $10?

Scam alert: MXC Exchange defrauding their users. Repeat case of >$2mm being held hostage, potentially for over a year. User deposits now being sold on Uniswap

Summary: https://ift.tt/2QvsL8F exchange (MXC) supposedly registered in Singapore, but now stating themselves to reside in the Seychellesoften rushes to list obscure and highly volatile tokens to get early access to volume and trading feeshistory of withdrawal problems in the recent past: first DOS, forcing a hardfork by the DOS team, and now XOR, holding both bought and deposited tokens hostage for 2 monthsthey intend to hold them for at least 6 more months, maybe even 1 year, depending on how fast XOR / DOT develop their mainnet (But later is to be expected considering tech and extensive testing. And even then there's no guarantee they will actually release the tokens, since "by mainnet" is an entirely arbitrary statement.)people can't sell on the exchange because the price is more than 50% under market valueMXC started selling the user-deposited tokens on Uniswap ~1-2 weeks agolawsuit likely underway soonthis incident has already been mentioned by IvanOnTech, Chico, and ElliotradesThey also have bots promoting the idea of how "safe" depositing on their exchange is, which is nothing short of laughable considering these recent incidents. In addition to referral links and other attempts at getting people to spam this exchange all over social media such as Telegram, Twitter, and Reddit. Please guys, always be careful using exchanges you don't fully trust! Using this exchange is extremely risky. And consider spreading awareness if you know any influencer or people connected to crypto-related media. If MXC has the tendency of using some kind of fractional reserve when selling DOS and XOR, it could very well be another Cryptopia in the making.

Are there any cryptocurrencies that have more utility than a visa card? Can they do things you can't do otherwise, or can't do easily otherwise?Bitcoin is terrible as a currency - slower, easier for the government to track, more expensive transactions than USD. What coins actually do something other than be a vehicle for speculation?

Change My View: Nano is extremely centralized and not a viable cryptocurrency.

I don't know a whole lot about Nano, which is why I'm asking you to change my view. I want to believe in instant, fee-less transactions with 0 inflation, but the problems seem to outweigh the benefits.Just 11 accounts own over one-third of the Nano stake, and two accounts have a third of the stake delegated to them. (source)This small group of people has no incentive to be honest. This supposedly decentralized network relies on just a few people to act in the best interests of the network with no incentive not to do the opposite.I don't think that a crypto should have to rely on people doing the right thing for it to work. Gold doesn't rely on people to do the right thing. Bitcoin doesn't rely on people to do the right thing (with the exception of 51% attacks, which at this point are practically impossible). A currency should be absolute, not dependent on a regulatory body (especially not one this small). I just can't see a system like this working on a large scale.Change my view.

Crypto Investing for Dummies (quite literally)

I'm not exactly a veteran, but after 3 years in this game I wanted to offer some advice for any newbies here:Don't do your own research. Just ask someone on reddit what to invest in. They will be happy to help and it will save you a lot of time and hard work.Always invest more than you can afford to lose. If you don't have enough money, try to take out a loan. When your hairdresser/ mechanic/ aunt Wilma tells you they've just bought Bitcoin, you know it's time to max out those credit cards (if for some inexplicable reason you haven't already) and go all in!Want to double your holdings? Go on twitter and you will find plenty of celebrities who are willing to give you back double whatever you send them. I shit you not.Don't take profits (in the unlikely event that you have any profits after following the above advice). Instead, hodl your coins all the way from the top of the bull down to the bottom of the bear. When you're approximately 95% in the red and everyone is saying 'Bitcoin is dead' it's finally time to give up and sell. But fear not- your sacrifice will signal the beginning of the next great bullrun. And finally, (as you will no longer have money left for a car or a haircut) make sure you wait for your aunt Wilma to give you the buy signal before you re-enter the market, telling yourself you've learned from all your previous mistakes and will definitely not be making those same mistakes again.Have I forgotten anything? Feel free to share your words of wisdom in the comments below.

I can see why oracles are so important, and why using a trustworthy one is valuable, but I can’t see why company’s won’t be able to create their own bespoke ones and avoid paying an oracle’s fees. It can’t be that hard to write some some code to link the data that you want to the API’s of multiple sources can it? If LINK is open source, surely that just makes the risk greater?I’ve also heard that some people are working on a free oracle anyway, anyone know anything about that?

Warning: CoinSwitch took my BTC and won't return it due to their error

I sent 0.05 BTC to CoinSwitch.co in order to convert it to ETH over 2.5 days ago.CoinSwitch told me to send 0.05 BTC to a deposit address. They're some sort of affiliate aggregator that finds whichever 'instant exchange' has the best rate. I selected HitBTC as it had the best rate. Here's a screenshot of the actual deposit screen (redacted for my privacy):As you can see, it's clearly telling me to send 0.05 BTC to this addressAfter I sent 0.05 BTC to the address, I received an error that said "Your Bitcoin deposit amount was less than the minimum allowed on Hitbtc":https://ift.tt/329tWzP immediately created a ticket. It has been 2.5 days now and I have only gotten 1 half-assed response (I posted a couple more follow-ups asking where my money was, not shown as there was no response).https://ift.tt/3gfS2Or was even kind enough to make them a mockup for free, so that they could avoid this problem in the future, and yet they still won't return my money:https://ift.tt/2E4zCmS, anyways, use CoinSwitch at your own risk. I looked pretty closely and nowhere does it say that there's a minimum deposit for sending to HitBTC and you'd be crazy to risk sending more than 0.05 BTC to these guys anyways. There's a high probability that because their UI sucks you will lose your money and they'll dick you around for over 2 days without sending it back. Even if they do end up giving me my BTC back, I can never regain the time I wasted on this.If you want to use an instant exchange, I've had very good experiences with MorphToken.

I Compared 6 Challenger Banks & Crypto Cards. Who Will Lead?

Hello, I’ve been doing a deep dive into my favourite challenger banks and crypto cards over the last few months and I’d like to share my thoughts and results so far. Firstly, I’ll disclose that I hold bags in CRO, PLU and TKN which are all the crypto-related tokens on the list, but I will try to remain as neutral as possible – please don’t hesitate to correct me in the comments if there’s anything missing/incorrect however I believe all the data is up to date.Challenger Bank/ Crypto Card ComparisonOrder of FavouritesMonzoPlutusCrypto.comStarling BankMonolithRevolutFirst PicksMonzo = 4.5/5Despite not having any crypto integration is probably the most intuitive finance app out there and it is still my favourite app and card. They have massively progressed mobile banking as we know it by making huge improvements to features like spend breakdown/saving pots/etc. Unfortunately, there is no crypto integration and their backend technology is pretty basic but as far as finance apps go, they are definitely one of the best. Business model wise also, I am unsure how sustainable it is as there seems to be a lot on mainstream media discussing mounting losses and at the same time cutting things like their customer service team.It would have been 5/5 for me if they had crypto integration.Plutus = 4.5/5On the flip side, Plutus is my favourite card on the crypto side and that is largely due to the non-custodial feature and their high cryptoback rewards. You can add your own wallet to the card and they use a DEX which is very rare and surprisingly user-friendly to action the conversions. They also offer some traditional fiat services (which is unusual for crypto companies) however these aren’t as strong as the traditional challenger banks on this list – although they have mentioned aims to rival the others. They also have one of the best rewards programmes (3% cryptoback). The downside is that they have announced to update their fees to 9.99 for premium account to unlock the rewards but you can easily make more than that back (anything you spend over ~£300 a month is profit). It would have been 5/5 for me if Plutus had banking features such as direct debits to replace my high street bank and main card in my wallet. And if their rewards keep improving then £/€ 9.99 per month is worth it in comparison to others where the hidden charges and spreads on conversion make up for the low onboarding fee.Second PicksCrypto.com = 4/5Crypto.com also has a good rewards programme and offer up to 5% cryptoback. However, they are locked behind crazy high staking requirements which makes them not as attractive as you would first think. There are also a few hidden fees (e.g. spreads) so from my personal experience it’s not quite as cheap as on first glance but it’s still not bad overall. They do, however, have an unbelievably strong referral programme which makes up for this and they do a tonne of promotional marketing offers which you can take advance. Again, I am not sure how sustainable that is. They have a good range of crypto-assets also and the conversion for card top-up is done pretty fast. It’s nothing spectacular but decent, it used to be my go-to card for crypto but has moved down my list due to the lack of transparency and high staking. I think they’re good to have purely for the money you can make from promotional offers rather than the feature set.Starling Bank = 4/5Starling Bank is an all-round fairly solid product. They are a worthy finance app and from my experience is fairly responsive in terms of depositing/transactions/customer service/etc. I have a personal preference towards Monzo as they seem to have more innovative features and a more enjoyable user-experience / brand identity. However, in terms of back-end banking features, Starling Bank is superior. If you’re looking for something just to fulfil your standard banking features exceedingly well, this is the one.Similar to Monzo, they could move up the list if they improved their app’s UI and crypto integration.Third PicksMonolith = 3.5/5The only other non-custodial crypto card besides Plutus (this is clearly a very important factor to me), however, they use a different implementation which isn’t quite as user-friendly. They provide the wallet and give you the private keys, but it requires quite heavy gas fees for them to execute transactions and I’m still not 100% sure if there’s a backdoor in or not. Still an impressive accomplishment and therefore a worthy honourable mention. The branding is also really cool, however, they have sacrificed usability for decentralisation.Personally, Monolith is one of the main contenders for the top spot, they have cool branding and features that appeal to the current and the next generation of users, with improved UX and bank features they could do well.Revolut = 3/5I included this as it still remains a highly popular choice for many people but out of the fiat challenger banks it is definitely the weakest in my opinion, and that is largely because it’s not actually a bank. Somehow, the one area it does exceed in is interbank exchange rates, however, they are still a market leader in this area. Their attempt at integrating crypto is also fairly poor, it is completely centralised but at least with the other centralised cards like crypto.com, you can withdraw your funds.I’ve also never been keen on their branding but that’s more of a subjective thing. Overall, I would say Revolut are one of the closest to integrating both crypto and traditional finance features but they have done so in a way that is the worst of both worlds.SummaryAs you can see none of the above made the top spot of 5/5 and a complete bank for the next generation of finance is still waiting to be captured. What I think is missing is an app with a complete set of legacy bank features with an intuitive UIX and complete crypto integration in a non-custodial way.Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my rant, if you did, I would be happy to do a follow up once I’ve tried more crypto card / challenger bank options and add to my table/list. If you have any recommendations as to what I should try next, then let me know below. So long as none of them are crazy expensive I’ll give it a go.I will leave the links to all the companies below so you can DYOR.Monzo = https://ift.tt/326Hk7O = https://ift.tt/3iVZoIC = https://ift.tt/3iXE4Cr Bank = https://ift.tt/3aGj3cE = https://ift.tt/328Ookn = https://ift.tt/1acC6ut

I sold $4,000 worth of bitcoin in 2017 and didn't pay taxes, is this a problem?

As the title suggest I sold $4k worth of bitcoin in 2017 and I honestly didn't even think about it until today, I downloaded my old transaction sheet from coinbase just to see how much it would be worth today and well I'm going to punish myself later for that. But It came to my mind that I didn't put the $4k bitcoin profit on my taxes back in 2017. Would this be a issue in the future?

Keep your API keys safe everyone!

A few weeks ago, I noticed something odd about my Binance account. 10 BNB appeared. I thought nothing of it, I recently did purchase BNB and thought perhaps I bought 10 by mistake. Then a few days later I was doing some late night trading. There were a couple of movements I was watching out for which had begun. As I was setting a stop loss and calling it a night, I took another peek at my balance. I noticed that I had bought quite a lot of ONE, as well as some stablecoins such as USDT and TUSD. I never, every trade in stablecoins. I think in terms of BTC and any change in the value of that is just a short-term movement in my world. I first thought this was some kind of bug. Then I discovered that my stop-loss had been cancelled and my original position was sold up, all for more ONE and stablecoins. My account seemed to have a mind of its own. But what was worse is that the BTC value of my account was falling away in front of my eyes. This was pretty late in the evening, but fortunately I didn't have a lot of beer in me that night. I immediately changed my 2FA, and then, thinking quickly, cancelled all of my APIs. I had just remembered that I recently started experimenting with a couple of third-party apps. I didn't spend a great deal of time on them, so they slipped my mind a little. That seemed to have put a break on everything.I then notified Binance what happened, and they put a temporary lock onto my account. After submitting some ID and stuff, things were back to normal. In all, I lost about a third of my account's BTC value. This was about two month's of hard work, gone. I had some time away from work over the summer, and set about doing some decent trading. Wiped out by some bastard on the Internet somewhere. The API I used was restricted to trading only. As far as I'm aware, there are two ways this can be used maliciously. The first is using your account to pump up a coin. The second method is placing trades that give the hacker good returns at your expense by crossing the spread. Crappy trades, in other words. I believe I was a victim of the second method the way my account was draining so quickly. The initial BNB purchase served as a test to see if I was paying attention, and also to save themselves some fees on my behalf (thanks!) so they could eventually drain more.Just a reminder to everyone. When creating an API, make absolutely sure that you check the option "Restrict Access to Trusted IPs Only". This was a major dumb move on my part. I'm just happy I noticed my account was behaving strangely when I did, otherwise I could have lost everything.Be safe everyone!

HEX is basically a scam, a pyramid scheme

HEX is a cryptocurrency token built on Ethereum that promises infinity rewards for staking. In the official website, it says:HEX IS NOT A PONZI.Yes, I agree. It's not a Ponzi scam. It's a Pyramid scam.In HEX, no one owes you anything. You mint your own HEX rewards yourself when you end your stake. Like how Bitcoin miners mint their own Bitcoin rewards. You are the network. That's basically minting value out of thin air. Wow, maybe HEX has an angel backing it that loves to give away free money. There are no middlemen or managers in HEX. HEX rewards are dynamic like Bitcoin mining rewards. No one in the world can promise you how much you might make running HEX, because no one knows how valuable HEX will become. HEX puts you in charge! The funds in traditional banks can give interest because they use it to provide loans for businesses. Without anything of that sort, how the hell can HEX continue to provide "high interests"?It's totally a Pyramid Scheme. It works by giving people a false hope that their money is going up in value. But they can't withdraw it as it is locked up.It can go up and up by making stupid people believe the balance sheet they see in their portfolio is what they will get. It's basically utilizing the greed of people with the lure of more money without actually giving more money. All the new money or interest is generated from inflation. It works by getting more people to buy it with referral programs. But when enough idiots of brought it, there won't be any more losers to refer to.Hence, the pyramid will collapse.

Can we talk about Nano for a second?

It blows my mind that this coin isn't talked about more on here. I read this sub almost every day and everyone seems super bullish on Bitcoin, when Nano does everything Bitcoin does but better. I was blown away by my first few experiences with it (instant and feeless transfer of money) and am surprised that the community isn't more passionate about it or pushing for its to be adopted. So what gives? Why is this coin performing so shittily in this strong bull market? And why does nobody really mention it on here when the topic of using crypto as a real-life currency comes up, as it seems to be amazing for this use-case?

derpina, a cryptocurrency tipping bot for Mattermost

Doing my part for a widespread cryptocurrencies adoption, I proposed to my company to implement a system where any employee can "tip" another one using cryptocurrencies. The idea being that if you help a coworker, deliver before it's due, impress someone with something you've done, (s)he can tip you with coins, which is less awkward than giving you $1.When it comes to money exchanges, at least here in France, things are always complicated and there's almost no way to bring innovation in this field. For this reason I made it "fun" and chose DOGE as the tipping asset. Note that this can be changed only by modifying the configuration file.We use Mattermost as our messaging solution, and the software I wrote uses Mattermost's outgoing webhooks to summon the bot.So here's the result of a couple of days of golang programming https://ift.tt/3h13xKG very welcome, feel free to use and modify it as you wish.

A friendly reminder that the general public knows very little about blockchain and still thinks you need to buy a whole bitcoin at a time. We’re still in the early stages of blockchain and crypto.

Bittrex - I hate this exchange more than any garbage scam exchange

I had about 5 transactions with bittrex in the last 2-3 weeks. One of them was pretty frustrating because I withdrawed a huge amount of AR to my wallet but they didnt delievered it despite it being marked as completed. After 2 weeks waiting without any clue where my coins are some "specialist" could help me. great.Yesterday I deposited Ethereum to my Bittrex wallet from another exchange. Everything went fine so far til bittrex had to broadcast the transaction (same error) to the blockchain. So I have to wait again for x days to get my ETH back without any reason, every other exchange I dealt with had absolutely no problem with deposit or withdrawals. Not even the worst exit scam exchanges like coinsmarkets back in the days.I wont ever use this piece of garbage exchange ever again after getting my ETH back. Holy shit, that cant even help me in the live chat, all they do is ask if I want to add something to the ticket. Thats happens when you outsource everything to maximize your earnings.F... [Serious] ELI 5 - Fundamental difference between Bitcoin and Dogecoin

It has become more than clear that the two leading crypto projects are struggling to keep the promise of low fees that was once a fundamental expectation of cryptocurrency as a whole. The recent price spikes in BTC and ETH have driven fees up by a lot and there isn't a clear solution in sight. Putting ETH on the side and looking at BTC I just can't find a single advantage that it has over Dogecoin. Yes, many of you will mention the fixed supply but you should know that there are some of us that don't find that feature very interesting. One major issue with it is that the rich will only get richer and those that get on the train last will be able to get bits and pieces of a status symbol for the wealthy. In simple terms, Bitcoin incentivizes early adoption and those that can truly "adopt" it right now are those that have the most money. Winklevoss twins have stated that they own 1% of the supply, just to name a few.Community-wise, Dogecoin is outperforming BTC by a lot because there is no such thing as a Doge maxi while a BTC maxi will bash anything and everything that isn't BItcoin. When it comes to transactions, Doge is fast, very reliable, and super cheap. I know it is not the fastest one out there but it certainly has the largest community which gives me even more faith in this "project".Bottom line, I need a rational explanation of why I would purchase Bitcoin over Dogecoin in technical terms? What advantage does it have except the fixed supply? Are there any fundamentals that I am missing or is the "internet gold" narrative good enough for everyone invested in BTC.
